Could be....but... I think what's great about superhero films like the Avengers and Iron Man 3, is that I've heard/am hearing people on the street talking about how funny the movie is, and why they love it.
At the same time, they're very aware of how a superhero film taken completely seriously can work as well with the Dark Knight being a giant success and all---
So- if the superhero film is allowed to be more than just one thing (something I admired SR for- it tried to not just be an action picture, but almost an indie romance film that was a bit heavy) --- then if it continues to try different things, as well as deliver some of the regular fireworks- then maybe the public won't suffer from superhero film fatigue.
At the same time--- I think that there should be/might need to be superhero films that aren't all $200 million+ .... so that there CAN be some failures now and then (which is bound to happen).
If each and every supehero film starts to escalate in budget--- then maybe the expected return is going to keep going up to a point that it might be a 'Superman Returns' scenario where it might have been considered a success on paper.... but too many films start to 'fail' because it/they was/were budgeted too high. (Assuming SR was actually $270 mil- just like everyone else, I'm skeptical)
Just a thought...

I overheard some people at work talking about MOS ... one girl said she wasn't into Superman but that it "looks brilliant", the three guys she was talking to were also itching to see it. Word of mouth is hot for this movie.

Don't know if this was put up yet- it's an excellent interview with Cavill from Details: (some spoilers in it, though minor) Great part with Cavill talking about meeting Crowe early on, asking him for advice on acting.... then reminding Crowe of their meeting years ago on MOS- A little shocked that Cavill was -at 19- going to play Superman when cast originally. Reeve was young at 25, but made it work---- but 19? Hm... www.details.com/celebrities-entertainment/cover-stars/201306/henry-cavill-superman-movie?currentPage=1

. Great point. The 80s/90s type of action picture has died, with the superhero action picture taking its place.... but since technology has advanced so much with movie fx, (and continues to) maybe it's just the best timing for that to happen anyways... What exactly was the "80s/90s type of action picture"?

Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Cliffhanger, Speed. That sort of thing. Lots of explosions and gunfire. There just aren't many any more. Or they're all rubbish.

Well, there's no exact definition, but I take it to mean the string of pictures around that time frame that followed a certain formula with these ingredients:
#1: Engaging enough story, but usually not very deep- balanced between a lot of action and some generic characterization.
#2: A clear 'good guy' action star at that time with a lot of personality-to varying degrees (Schwarzennegar, Stallone, Cruise, Segal, Wesley Snipes, Van Damme, Jackie Chan)
#3: Great production values... or some gimmick or schtick that the action star would bring to the table. A sense of humor to the 2-d characterization or a memorable trademark something.
In any case--- generally predictable movie fast food. There'd be the occassional action film that would be a bit arty and strive for a bit more (Blade Runner and the James Cameron Terminator flicks and the subversive Paul Verhoeven films at the time).... but there was a certain comfort with being given predictable formula films with predictable action stars who kind of relished in the fun/light aspect of their films.
Now? Not so much..... Willis kind of takes himself too seriously now, Schwarzenneger's last film (which was supposed to be pretty good actually) didn't do great box office, and Matt Damon blurs the line with his Bourne Identity films.
Anyhow--- that's my take on it when that term is referred to. Fun brand of movies at the time.....

Bear's "Walking Dead" theme is the bee's knees. Creeps me out every time I hear it.
And others have perfectly explained y idea of what an 80s/90s action movie is, so I won't go overboard on the topic.
And speaking of failed superhero movies, I STILL want another Tom Jane Punisher film. The first one DID NOT suck ... it just had Travolta.

I hope people won't mind me posting this. It's not going to be my sig, so once it's part way up the page you don't need to look at it again. But I thought it was too good not to post

I didn't think it was a bad film per se, and I thought there were some nice touches to the Thomas Jane Punisher- but i was bothered with the screenwriter's justification for moving the location from New York to Florida (Michael France openly said in an interview he wanted to bring more money to a certain Florida location to help its economy at the time, and that's why he changed it. Hmnn...)- which changed the tone- but moreso having he bulk of the story having the Punisher taking devious routes of having the villains take one another out--- rather than personally going in for revenge (and punishment). It just felt like they weren't playing up the fearlessness and indestructibility (in spirit) of the character.

It looks brilliant. Starting to hear reactions from the recent press screenings in LA and NY. It's all very positive, however you can never tell who genuinely saw it who's just an attention seeker, since there are so many about. Anyway, we seemingly have a legitimate rating here

Aw, man, did you guys see that tv spot with the chick saying, "He's kinda hot!"
Talk about forcing it.
I totally get that you have to market it to women, but come on. You gotta do it with a little more finesse to make it cool.
Like the Craig Bonds, force it without seeming like you're forcing it.

Very true.... On the other hand, if it was a stinker or a disappointment- there'd probably already be some postings saying so... fingers crossed that it turns out to be great...

Who knows, the "he's kinda hot" line may work better in the proper context than it does as a throwaway moment in a commercial. I still remember thinking the "shooting drones from a floating tank" bit from The A-Team looked stupid when I first saw the trailer...it actually turned out to be one of the best sequences in the movie.

Aw, man, did you guys see that tv spot with the chick saying, "He's kinda hot!" I like it. I feel like this movie is going to play up his alien-ness a lot, and it's gonna need those humanizing moments. And honey, she ain't lyin'. Haaaaaaaaaaay!

It's as harmless as a random pimp complimenting the Superman suit.

Wonder what women think of that line? Seeing as there isn't a single one HERE...
You guys are just looking for shit to complain about, now. It's out in less than two weeks for most of us. Just go with it. If it sucks, complain all about it here, but until then...ahhh whatever.

The basketball game was, I stood up to grab a soda in between commercials and there was the MoS commercial. All I did was post my reaction to the commercial.

I'm certainly not looking for faults, you guys know I'm as excited about this as anyone, I'm just trying not to get carried away.
Did anyone watch the publicity special or is everyone avoiding all this stuff now?
Enrique there was a 10 second scene between Superman and Zod I thought you might have found cool, with Shannon looking sinister as fuck.

I agree..... I'm almost wishing they stopped with the third trailer and just mass distribute that- it already has people talking.... I almost feel like they're giving away too many of the goods now with all the spots.
