Didn't some of the scenes that appeared in the extended Superman II actually appear in a film print somewhere, maybe even a test screening? I have read this somewhere before years ago. The scene of the boy being killed by the police siren is rumoured to have appeared on film. I have never seen any real evidence of it though.
But one thing I am sure of is Albert Dinckgreve who use to post here told me way back in 2000 that he seen a scene where Ursa says "What, you hit a woman?" I never thought anything of it and thought he must have a vague memory of the movie that had been clouded over time yet in Nov 2006 that scene was in the Dooner cut. I had the shock of my life when I seen it because he repeated it to me a few times years previously.

It's in the Mank script- but given how truncated the Thau cut was, it's a toss-up if it was actually shot by Donner & then discarded--- though the modified/rescripted version was definitely Lester... in the bts you see Lester discussing it with Reeve & it also has Lois dressed in green & white to match the awful 'orange juice' scene. Edit: Looked up that picture- it's in the souvenir book for Superman the Movie that came out (from DC, not the ones sold in the movie theatres at the time)- it was actually an on-set drawing of Donner and the crew printed in the magazine, with the broken cab in the background. (Once my scanner works, I'll scan and post it). Superman II opened in South Africa, first, around xmas, I believe- then in the states 6 months later as summer seemed to be a more desirable time to open Hollywood blockbusters by then. Who knows if that print differed at all from what showed six months later?

Who knows if that print differed at all from what showed six months later? I saw it in South Africa in the cinema. (I was only about 7 or 8, and I remember being terrified by Superman turning into a skeleton during the depowering scene!) As far as I remember, it was the normal theatrical cut.

The print I am thinking about was an Australian print. But again I think it was just Internet speculation.

Just thinking out loud, I wonder how normal (and how often) theatrical cuts get REALLY different versions for different territories, ( in terms of extended bits/ visual alterations, not sound mixes). Since it was pretty necessary for different tv stations' times, it wasn't too much of a suprise to hear that different countries/stations had different timeslots when they bought "Superman II", and maybe had to shorten/extend the cut to be able to sell it to them (Maybe that's why we got that awful re-use of the flying scene of Supes & Lois in the SII IRC)- but then again, so many questions would be answered if any of us worked for the WB....
