Issue #1 just came out yesterday. Picked up the Kevin Eastman cover. Man what a fun issue. I am def adding this series to my pull list.
Anyone else here a fan of the comics versions of the Turtles (Don't get me wrong I love the cartoon versions as well, well at least the original series).
We have the 25th anniversary trade that has the first 12 issues of the the 1984 series. It's fantastic, trying to work my way through that vol as well.
But, IDW's #1 got me pretty stocked for what is hopefully a kickass run.

Almost picked this up yesterday! So, it's good? Is it original comics continuity?
The original TMNT stuff is really, really special. Those were some brilliant, gutsy comics. It's so funny how they started off as a Daredevil/X-Men parody, but really turned into a great book on its own.

It's not set in the Mirage continuity. But, it's tone is essentially the same. I think it is technically IDW-Turtles Vol. 1, not Turtles Vol. 5.
I really really suggest checking it out. It seems as though they are starting with a retelling of the origin, though there are differences from mirage. The art style is excellent. It feels like a fresh take, but at the same time retains what was good about mirage. Though this is only the first issue. But, it was enough for me to put it on my pull list.
Plus it's got Kevin Eastman's involvement. His first time back with the Turtles property in over 15 years. I would def at least give the first issue a try.

Are Eastman and Laird still a team? Did they do the IDW issue?
I'm lucky enough to have a 1st printing of the original #1 Also have the rarer #3. I got them way back when because I thought they were cool, never thought they would be such a collectible.

Laird isn't involved. But Eastman is working on layouts and variant covers. I also think he is helping with some scripting.

I don't know what the heck happened to it, but I owned the fourth TPB of the Turtles, which the first movie took a good amount from. I remember it being fantastic.

Yeah I was shocked to find out that almost the entire main plot from the first movie is taken from the comics.

Issue number 2 came out today. Man, this comic is top notch all the way. I love it. Probably my favorite comic currently being published. The writing, the art, inking and coloring. If your not reading it, def pick it up. Hopefully the team can keep the quality up, and have a nice long run.

It is so freaking good. Just wait until you get to issue #5. That issue will knock your socks off.

I haven't checked out the Turtles, but I'm catching up on the ongoing Ghostbusters IDW is putting out. The overly cartoonish style throws me off, but it's good otherwise. Mixes elements of both movies, both cartoon serirs and the video game. I just wish we could get a solid story that doesn't always go back to Gozer. It's like using Zod over and over.

Yeah, I I am reading that too. It's quite fun. And the cartoon style has grown on me.

Yeah, this is fantastic. I'm hooked. It makes me feel like a kid again, to be honest. Maybe more so than anything else I read. It's great.

Kev,
You reading the Micro-Series issues that are coming out too? The Raphael one was excellent. The other two (Leonardo hasn't come out yet)...Meh. Though the Donatello one was better than Michelangelo

Ohhh, so those are completely different books? I thought they were just different covers. No. I won't bother. I'm keeping my comics simple. I overdid it for a while, now I'm limiting myself to seven a month, if that. Them poops is pricey.

Yeah, they are completely separate. Though I think there are only going to be 4 issues total. So far 3 have come out. You might want to read the Raphael one, it ties into the main series pretty well. However, the other two you can just skip, one and Done.

I keep meaning to check these out. I've been in a pretty...ummmm...Ninja-y mood lately. Had a real urge to watch the first movie and the recent CGI flick, too!

For those of you that have read it, what did you think of the changes and mythology introduced in issue 5?
Personally, I think it's genius. It's very different, and I am really looking forward to seeing what they do with it.

I read the Turtles Infestation tie in last night. I initially stayed away since I didn't want to read IDW's infestation event. But, when I read that each little mini series is completely stand alone I decided to give it a try. It was pretty good. I recommend it.

Issue #8 hit it out of the park again. Duncan's artwork is fracking gorgeous in that gritty sort of way. And I don't normally take note of the colorist, but Rhonda Pattison is hitting it out of the park on complimenting Duncan's style.

My shop was out of it. Dammit!
I love everything that's happened so far. Really. It's the most fun comic that I'm reading, by FAR.
