From Capedwonder.com:
Dear Friends,
When I made the decision to send a DVD of my personal 16mm film print of an extended version of Superman-The Movie to the Superman-The Movie: Restored International Cut restoration team, I got very excited about the whole idea of finally owning a very viewable and enjoyable TV cut of my all-time favorite movie.
Many of you have been following this project since it was “officially” announced back in 2009. Since then, it has been met by many challenges, delays and complexities that have continued to push back its completion. I want to see it finished and in my library as much as you do, but it doesn’t look like that is going to happen in the immediate future, so CapedWonder.com is disconnecting from the entire effort.
Should the project be completed, I will consider reconnecting and do my best to let you know more about its current status.
Best of luck to the restoration team.
Thank you for your continued support of Christopher Reeve’s legacy and CapedWonder.com.

This really really sucks. I've been looking forward to this for probably 3 years now. And it seemed like it was so close to being done too. Last update I had heard, the restoring of the footage was done, and all that was left was things like dvd menus, cover art, and rendering the dvd files and such. I really hope they give us more of an explanation than this. This vague update is like a slap in the face.
Actually more like a punch in the face and a kick to the nuts.

Talk like "disconnecting" sounds very formal. Had there been some sort of upset?
If they only need menus done, I can produce some slick poop...if I had the time lol

Very puzzling. Sounds like something's happened between him and Alex (or whoever else is working on it). I don't know why you would want to disassociate from a project just because it was delayed. The last update I saw was on Alex's forum in mid June stating;
"I hear through the grapevine that someone "very important" is sending the final pieces needed for the restoration."
I assumed at the time that that person was Jim, as he was the one providing the extra footage from his 16mm print. And it sounded like they were nearly done.
I hope that the thing still gets finished and that they have all of the pieces they need to get it done.

Bowers is not the only person with a 16mm print, Chance has one.

Complete balls, I was really looking forward to this like many here.

I hope WB release this, however unlikely.

If it does get completed, then why would Jim "consider" reconnecting?
Very strange stuff.
It's like my wife telling me she is going to disconnect from me until I finish painting the utility room...which has been over a year in the works!

Do any of these kinds of projects get full realized and completed? That's been the status quo with Superman stuff for years already. If one is going to announce it, then follow through. If not, keep everyone in the dark and surprise people with it when it gets finished.

I'm a bit mystified.... how could it come one month to release, then be indefinitely delayed? Are they just setting the standards too high to be realistic? I'd imagine that even if it were released now, it'd be head and shoulders above anything else available....
If it's a question of too much remaining work for no money, then it'd be great if WB could just pay them for the work already done, then complete the rest & put it out there for official sale.
Have this horrible feeling that NOTHING is being done in conjunction with MOS's dvd release with SII or STM, but I guess it's a wait and see situation.....

If they had simply remastered the deleted footage (roughly 45 minutes if you count the stuff on the 2011 expanded version), they could've released this over a year ago.
We gotta hire a cat burglar to break into WB's vaults and get the original prints so we can remaster them ourselves, lol.

I wonder if WB has caused waves...hense CW distancing themselves?
I mean I'm surprised they are not wanting to clamp down on it.

Is it possible we're gonna get an official release of the KCOP cut as bonus material on the next round of Superman releases?

I have only watched the STM extended cut once (Chance's pan/scan letterbox VHS hyrid), gotta be going on 10 years ago or more. I should bust it out and give it a watch.
I downloaded a torrent around 2005/2006 just to have it digitally. I never gave it a watch. But, the quality won't be any better as the source was the same.
It's going to be rough on an HDTV. It looked horrible on my parents 27" CRT. Though I guess there is the difference between VHS and now DVD which might help it look a little better

Is it possible we're gonna get an official release of the KCOP cut as bonus material on the next round of Superman releases? I doubt there will ever be another round of Superman releases. We should count our lucky stars we got what we got. Perhaps if there's a new format in the future, but technical limitations will make anything better than 1080p difficult since 95+% of films are stored at 2K resolution. Studios would have to remaster EVERYTHING, and that ain't gonna happen.

darn, that would be nice.... official IRC releases of STM and SII in widescreen dvd quality (Sure, blu-ray would be even better, but I'll be happy enough if even in dvd) actually should not have been THAT hard with the tough work already done (I assume) with everything pulled out of the vaults for STM/SII for the 2000 STM and 2006 RDC....

yeah, I feel pretty lucky we got nearly what we have gotten over the years. Who really thought we would ever see a sanctioned WB SII Donner Cut? I know I didn't. We all hoped, but that was all (and then everyone complained ;D). I'm pretty happy that the New Blu ray box set had DTS-HD and lossless audio, as the previous blu ray release didn't. And the original audio mix I have said it before and I'll say it again (IMO) WB is done with the Reeve superman movies. Which I guess is why it's a little sad that the fans STM extended restoration process has apparently fallen apart.

Yeah, I'm not getting this whole "disconnecting" deal, especially since he has many of the extended clips on his Vimeo account. I figured that was a tease for the upcoming DVD release.

I think "disconnecting" is the polite way for saying "they're too f&$%ing slow, I'm outta here." Since it's already been in the works for 3 years, and has been said to be almost complete, it would be odd for that to be the reason I think. The announcement at CW has been changed now too: Dear Friends,
I’m sure that many of you have been following the Superman-The Movie: Restored International Cut fan-edit project since it was “officially” announced back in 2009.
I really got very excited about the whole notion of finally owning a very viewable and enjoyable TV cut of my all-time favorite movie once I made the decision to send a DVD of my personal 16mm film print of an extended version of Superman-The Movie to the STM: RIC restoration team.
Since the 2009 announcement, the project has been met by many challenges, delays and complexities which have pushed back its completion. What does that mean today? It means that it’s going to be awhile before you see a final product.
Will Superman-The Movie: Restored International Cut be released on September 25, 2012? No, I’m afraid not. Will it be released on December 15, 2012, Superman-The Movie‘s 34th anniversary? Doubtful. Will it be released next summer? A possibility.
I am as eager to see this 188-minute ultimate extended cut of Superman-The Movie as you are, so hang tight and stay hopeful. I will pass along updated information to you as it comes my way.
I wish the restoration team the very best of luck.
Thank you for your continued support of Christopher Reeve’s legacy and CapedWonder™.com.

I'm happy with the theatrical cut. There's hardly anything in the pan and scan long cut that I need to see again.
