I have exactly the same sentiments.

Is it possible we're gonna get an official release of the KCOP cut as bonus material on the next round of Superman releases? good lord mary mother of god jesus i hope so. i know the KCOP version has it's detractors, and i accept that the theatrical version is darn near perfect (near). but i LOVE the 3 hour cut. i do. except for "can you read my mind", which i chapter skip in any version and is second only to noel niel's scene in SR as unwatchable. a re-release of vintage superman stuff is inevitable when MOS is released, but it's much more likely to be the same blu rays and dvds that are getting dusty in warehouses as we speak. MAYBE some slick repackaging. IF we get more modified versions of the reeve films i will be (happily) shocked.

I hear ya.... I'm so pessimistic at this point, I think I'll be overjoyed if there's even one or two 'extended' Donner scenes or even some new alternative footage on a separate disc. Without having seen the film, right now- the MAIN thing that makes me want MOS to make a billion dollars is so that we can have another opportunity for an improved official Donner cut, or at least new footage from the vaults. I will give WB credit for some nice suprises now and then- like the RTK scene for the blu-rays- and the giant picture upgrade of the theatrical SII..... here's hoping that superhero dvds sell so well that WB sees enough dollar signs to give us another nice suprise and re-invest in one of their biggest properties for dvd...... Besides- how much more could it really cost for improving a movie that's already shot and supposedly has tons of footage still existing?

Yeah, just read that on their Facebook about 5 minutes ago. Mods, please delete this thread. I'd like to forget this whole thing, lol.

Still don't get if this means that the original release date is still on track.

Still don't get if this means that the original release date is still on track. The info. is blurred right now. Alec Serpa (one of the 2 guys working on this project) recently left a comment for me on fb saying that things were sidetracked at the moment, but the project is still on. However, the 25th is not gonna happen. Possibly in summer of next year. Like I said to him on fb, right now, any updates is good news. Which is my half-hearted way of saying "If this ever does get released, great. If not, fine."

I have tried sending the downloaded torrent copy from my desktop to a USB stick, the second half plays fine but the first half is out of sync. The dialogue doesn't match at all. Anyone else ever have this problem with the first half?

Anyone else ever have this problem with the first half? I noticed that the frame rate on that download is sped up a bit (like PAL) as well. Assuming you're downloading the same one I did. Maybe that 20-25 bucks I paid for the KCOP on videotape back in 2003 was worth it after all, lol. Though my version runs 186 minutes, not 188. I think its missing the line at the end when Lois tells Supes that they're "similar in a lot of ways. Our jobs come first", or w/e she said.

Ahh, right I see. Total nuisance that. When I watch it off the USB on TV, I have the audio in sync from the laptop/download ;D
Yea, I know the scene you mention. That's Pretty much what she said.
Perhaps this thread can be edited to 'Official STM KCOP Thread'
?

Maybe because the KCOP cut as it has become known was screened in Europe and Australia as far back as 1982.

Whatever the case, it's admirable that those guys have been working on the thing so long and trying to put it out.... that work has got to be tedious, and it's a tough thing to commit to, without getting paid/whatnot.... For my two cents, I was just curious about how the projected deadline ended up being off by such a big amount, but I get life getting in the way of creative stuff....

Only except all the deleted footage.

So they're only cleaning up the deleted footage and using the dvds (and zooming in) for the rest? Or am I reading this wrong?
Can't imagine them using the dvd footage and zooming in to make it look like pan and scan- would be too much of a mismatch I would think for the extremes in quality, even with cleanup....

They're remastering the entire cut of the film. If they only did the 45 minutes of KCOP-only footage they'd have been done like 2 years ago, lol.

My comment is in response to those happy with the theatrical. The deleted footage is well worth owning.

I believe one of the main hold ups has been restarts due to better quality footage becoming available. I think that they have restarted from scratch at least once. The last update I remember seeing before all the cancellation worries happened, said something along the lines of there being a new source and some completed scenes would be re-done. I'd verify this, but Alex Serpas Superman sites are down. Dunno what's going on there. Maybe someone who uses the book of face could give him a shout?

Interesting. Hard to envision a better source than the 16mm film print that came from Jim Bowers (at least for fans to have access to).... though I also wonder.... when did WB sell 16mm prints of the STM IRC to begin with anyhow?

The 16mm version does not have every extended scene in it.

Interesting... but If it just has extended Fortress of Solitude stuff and extra Supes in action stuff, that's still great. (To me, I personally don't need to see Otis walking and walking and walking again for another 5-10 minutes...)

I believe it’s probably 2 hours and 40-50 minutes. They added material, while taking out some of the theatrical footage.
Right, that’s kind of how it felt. I think the whole point of the project was to integrate all of the scenes from the various versions of the film into one edit. That’s why it’s taking so long and the combination from the various sources requires delicate work in hopes of expanding out the picture, as the 16mm version is quite zoomed in for pan and scan.

That's a long run time, for sure. But there ARE a lot of good bits that I like there (ie Jimmy's bullying of the copy boy I found pretty funny) From what I saw on the tv version, there was a lot of coverage almost everywhere.... which makes me wonder how/why the RDC couild feel so choppy all the way around, if Donner shot so much constantly. Not to mention seeing how (mostly) the ABC/IRC versions felt pretty complete.

The 16mm prints total approx 3 hrs 8 mins of footage. The cut that was supplied to ABC in the 1980s edited out some extended footage, I don't know why this was the case but it was. My guess is in the editing stage they just edited together their own version of what was supplied by the Salkinds.
The version that appeared on KCOP in 1994 appeared widely on RTE TV in Ireland throughout 1980s, I would say as far back as Christmas 1982 (when I first seen it). Just look at Superman II, a full extended cut was never screened in North America yet the versions that appeared throughout Europe/Australia contained easily an extra 7 minutes of footage compared to ABC's screenings.

The 16mm prints total approx 3 hrs 8 mins of footage. So then the 16mm print IS the longest running version. 188 minutes.
