Completely went through both the feature and the 'video extras during the movie' feature.
Surprisingly, I like the movie much better--- conditionally.
The context is that I saw the movie twice on the BIG screen- then went straight into discussion endlessly over the merits of the film & its flaws, over and over and over and over and over and over on the forum...... So- the bits that most offended I was definitely more numb to and not as bothered by- but that's more due to checking out the forum over and over talking about the same bits. Because of that, just kind of got used to the idea.
First, more on the bonus disc: As mentioned before, the blu ray had a lot of effort put into it- moreso than most blurays (although it's definitely missing the Selutron cut or extra Donner deleted scenes for the bonus disc)---
In watching the behind-the-scenes, Amy Adams comes off as incredibly funny and charming (though still horribly miscast still imo as Lois: her being tough comes off as too soft)--- and with all the practical shooting- I can imagine how much fun it must have been for actors on the set to make--- but it also made me think of how much easier it must have been for Snyder versus Donner not having to battle over the budget daily- but, I digress... (Ironic how Cavill and Adams seem to get along great, versus how we know Kidder and Reeve were at each others' throats daily--- though the chemistry for MOS seems that both Lois and Superman seem like gentle spirits, whereas in STM the chemistry comes from the fact that they're polar opposites on the surface).... though the idea of having the actors having to stand in front of a white stage made them look at times more uncomfortable than not (looks nice, but I get the feeling that they might have offered up more if they didn't have to stand on stage, but were allowed chairs to sit down on- minor quibble). Still--- really dug the extra mile they took to edit the side by side before/after/commentary bits with the actual movie.
In any case- the way that the bts & video commentary was spliced together should be model for future blu rays. VERY nice.
Though--- NO FREAKING TRAILERS FOR MOS! Bah! Humbug! It was one of Snyder's best pieces of work for MOS. Sad that it wasn't included. Also- would have been nice to have had the Comicon panel as well.... oh well....
Second- the actual film:
#1: The colors don't look nearly as desaturated as they did on the big screen, so I forgive that- and the shakicam wasn't TOO bad- but in viewing the behind the scenes footage (particularly the stuff with the battle in Smallville)- the practical looked so beautiful with the videocamera that you can't help but think that they ruined a much nicer picture by deciding on shakicam.
#2: Yeah, there is a lot of areas where I thought the drama was stilted or there were just some REALLY idiotic choices (Jonathan dies to save Clark's secret.... but moreso for the darn dog. The dog was even more important than Clark's secret, apparently. And I'm still sick to my stomach whenever Jenny Olsen appears onscreen)--- but, this time around- I already knew the parts that were disappointing to me as a fan- so, on a level of turning off the brain and just enjoying "Flash Gordon", "Dune", and even "Daredevil" for what it does have to offer- it is a lot of fun.
The problem I found was (in part) knowing how good a Superman movie CAN be with the Donner history and some great visuals that opened one's eye up to how GREAT a new interpretation can be- but also if it were going to be realistic, then movies like Batman Begins and Dark Knight also make for a bad comparison to MOS.
Anyhow- I'm suprised I enjoyed it a lot more for what it was/is. I think it is kind of a 'cult' film in that the visuals are dynamic and it's an edgy interpretation (and sloppy with some big gaps at times)- but -oddly, I may end up rewatching Snyder's MOS (with its giant story flaws and some really bad choices) more often over Andrew Stanton's John Carter movie- which I thought was well done, but visually unspectacular. Pretty pictures can go a long way.....

Walmart pre-order was pointless. I still don't have it. When did you sign up for it? If you signed up for it and put in your address after Nov. 4th, you wouldn't be receiving it on the 12th.

Trailers don't seem to happen anymore. The Super 8 trailer isn't on the blu ray and that's one of the best trailers of recent time.

Which REALLY sucks, especially when/if there's footage in the trailer that never makes it in the film! Wonder who at the studios decided it wasn't a good idea anymore to include these as extras.... *sigh*

Doesn't make sense. Some trailers are works of art. Cliffhanger, for example.

I think Cliffhanger and Goldeneye presented a gigantic leap forward in terms of trailers. I watched the Rocky IV and Superman III trailers recently for example, and was surprised how dated and piss poor they are.
The Star Wars prequel trailers were all really well done too it has to be said.

Yeah the trailers in the mid 90's really were a nice mix of giving you a tease without giving everything away. Digital editing had just hit the scene and trailers defiantly benefited from it. Unfortunately it eventually evolved into the ADHD style of editing we must deal with today. I love the nostalgia factor of old school trailers, but the voiceovers tended to give away too much. Cliffhanger and Goldeneye (along with the teaser for T2) are probably the greatest trailers ever made IMO.
As far as why trailers are not included on dvd/blu ray some studios feel like anything you can find online is pointless to put on the home media side of things, also a lot of trailers use licensed music and it would cost more to put the trailer on items considered being sold rather than promotional. You can license a song for relative peanuts to use for a trailer, the moment you put it on a disc "for sale" the price skyrockets. I'm not sure why that is, it's just the music industry. This isn't every case of course, but the studios would rather pay the lower fee than the higher fee to include it as a bonus. It's crazy to think this is still an issue, it started to pop up in the early 2000's when studios wanted to release tv shows on dvd. But the original contracts were only for broadcast rights (which streaming is considered broadcasting) so the music licensors were asking for insane fees. Several shows have still never seen release due to this fact, the main example would be the wonder years.
As far as MOS goes, WB probably just didn't care. I'm pretty sure they have to the rights to most of the music in the trailers in house.

I did as well, but I received mine on Tuesday. You might want to give them a call.. they have a number on the vudu.com for order tracking to find out where your movie is. I hope you get it soon. I'd be pissed if I had to wait this long for it.

Sent from my SPH-D710 using proboards I'll have to check out the Cliffhanger trailer- but, heck, YEAH- I couldn't agree more about it being works of art. Movie trailers are like 'mini-movies' at its best. (Same with music videos, when done right) What's funny is that I remember when Burton's Batman was coming out, and it was big news when the studios were realizing that fans were buying multiple tickets to movies JUST to see the Batman trailer... Also, it's amazing how some of the best trailers I enjoy ended up with movies I didn't really care for- but Off the top, personal favs: Pearl Harbor (the one with Hans Zimmer's "Thin Red Line" playing)- gorgeous stuff, almost puts a tear in ones' eyes Superman II (of course) Dragon Batman 89 Forrest Gump 300 But then- oddly (or maybe not), the best ones now seem to be remixed trailers from fans. There was one for John Carter that put the real ones to shame- focusing more on its source material- another favorite was one that was done for "Dark Knight Rises" done in the "Dragon with a Tatoo" movie trailer style that was fantastic. (Unfortunately, can't find the specific one- now, there are a number of variations from fans that aren't so good).

Called today. Anyone who did the pre-order attached to the Thursday night premiere tickets hasn't received the movie yet. Some frack up between Walmart and Vudu, even though Walmart owns Vudu. No idea when they will ship. No canceling the order, no refund. fracking ridiculous. Last time I pre-order anything through these fracks.

I've heard of other issues, but none that took this long.... if you paid with credit card, my credit card company has been pretty good at solving these things, despite the stores' policies. Hope it comes in soon, though.

So no trailers, but we do get "New Zealand: Home to Middle Earth."

Evidently the whole New Zealand thing is a contractual obligation. In order to get better tax incentives from the government WB/New Line and MGM had to agree to cross promote the location on non LOTR related properties.

Same thing happened years ago in Australia with the Matrix DVD's only worse.
Had "Warner Brothers Movie World" theme park advert hard pressed into the dvd. Every fn time I played that dvd it would play the advert before the movie.
Ahh...the things companies did to drive us to pirate.......
On another matter, is it true there are retailer specific contents divided, similar to the Star Trek Into darkness Blu or is there some way of getting it all?

Target and Wal-Mart both have retailer exclusives. No way to get it all in one place.

Got it from Wal-Mart for the packaging. I was not dissapointed. It even matches the soundtrack's packaging! Had no expectation for what the special features would be vs. Target/Best Buy/etc. but from what I can tell Wal-Mart's was the best in that dept. too! Watch the film proper with my roommate tonight, look forward to delving into the extras as the week goes on.

IMO the target digibook blows the wal mart steelbook out of the water (and this is coming from someone who double dipped so I could have all the special features, holds head in shame. Though I am giving away extra blu ray copy and dvd copies to family who will enjoy the film, so not a total fail). For those of you who haven't seen the target packaging check out an unboxing from youtube.
And I would say its a wash between the target exclusive and wal Mart exclusive content. Its roughly 30 minutes each. Though if you got the deluxe soundtrack you pretty much already saw the feature on Zimmer and the score from the wal mart release. Though its nice that its 1 feature instead off broken up into 5.

Saw copies of MOS, but no steel casing at Walmart: probably sold out already.
At Target, didn't see any more with the red sticker--- presumably only those with the stickers had the digibook- most likely also sold out. It was/is VERY nice, I agree!

The majority of the target digibook are located at the cardboard MOS display, usually placed near the front/check out area of the store. Some stores are cleared out, others seem to have plenty of copies.

Yeah its weird that the target digibook is only at the front cardboard display. I was there yesterday for something else, and saw that there were no digibooks in the electronic section. Plus if you didn't know about it you probably wouldn't even notice it. You'd think they would really play up their exclusive version.

I asked a clerk about it when the Avengers had some exclusives as well--- at that time, the clerk said that only 'x' amounts were made for Target for these exclusive bonus items, that's why the other Avenger dvds at Target at the time didn't have the sticker nor the bonus content- so I know now to get it right away (if interested) close to the day of release. (Probably same with Walmart)=== Maybe they don't play it up in the ads, because there's only a (sortof) limited amount, with the rest being without the extras at the Target stores...
