HAHA you know what i remember when they announced craig as bond i saw it on the news they had him come in on some boat in a harbor somewhere maybe London ? i remember a big chunk of press weren't happy with the casting cause he had blonde hair or some poop i had never ever been interested in watching a bond film before around 2 years passed i found myself at fox studios Sydney with a few hours to kill before going to the football. and casino royale was playing would have been towards the end of it's run would of been around mid January so glad i did one of the best films i have ever seen just blew me out of my seat and this was my first time watching a bond film just a little story there for you enrique Difference is CR won people over in a way MOS never did and Craig proved the haters wrong by turning in a great performance. He's legit near the top of Bond actors in a way Cavill just isn't for Superman. Craig made it his. Enrique's right in that AFTER the movie came out there was more positive talk about Craig. i can't really comment on bond as i have only seen a handful of films i liked cavill as superman and enjoyed the film but give me routh any day over him

Hindsight is 20/20, and looking back, I can't believe the Star Trek movie franchise was basically a reunion of middle-aged/senior citizen actors from 1 through 10. A 20-year old movie franchise starring nothing but old fogies! It wasn't until the JJ Abrams reboot that the cast got young. Strangely, I was never into the classic series UNTIL the Trek movies. The fact that it was (at the time)the ONLY view of the Star Trek universe and could have been the 'last time ever' during Star Trek #1, 2, 3, and 4--- it was really an event and you never knew if these characters (or the supporting characters) would appear for the very last time in any Trek film (or die of old age- a sortof/kindof Heath Ledger effect, I guess). When TNG, DS9, etc. sprouted from Trek- and more Trek was available- then it may have helped 'kill' the interest in the movies (although Shatner's direction of Trek 5 may have had more to do with it). In any case- In looking back, I'm thrilled that they kept the original cast as long as they did- but it definitely would have been nice if there was a real/better plan in place for them to exit. As it is, though, Trek 6 does a nice job for its budget as a 'goodbye' film (moreso than 'let's have Kirk die in the desert buried under a broken metal bridge' that was Star Trek: Generations--- talk about a downer!). If anything, the studios have made these major event films even more disposable and frivolous by diminishing the importance of this/that actor in a given role. Thank goodness for the filmmakers who get ahold of these summer tentpole films and actually attempt to make them great films out of the material, instead of just making essentially summer movie fast food of them. Will be interesting to see how long it'll be before the young cast of Trek get dumped for a new reboot. Seems nobody's safe. (Wonder if eventually they'll have Zachary Quinto cameo as an older Spock that sees HIS timeline implode in favor of a newer, younger cast?)

Agreed. It really would have helped MOS imo....

I think Cavill has been great with what he's done so far and look forward to seeing him in the next two sequels.
But beyond that, I reckon WB will let him go (and Amy Adams especially, only because she will be in her mid-40s!), and therefore reboot the entire cast.
So after MOS 2 in 2016 and Justice League in 2017/18, we will probably see more of Superman from 2020/21, but it will certainly be with an entirely new cast.

That's the thing..... if there's a recast again--- will it mean that there will be REBOOTS every ten years as well??? *sigh*....

I lean towards no since WB is desperate to do what Marvel has. They don't want to get any more behind. Even if some of their current films fail I can see WB soldiering on with this continuity. Yet more reboots would make them look really bad. Then again CAM I wouldn't put it past them to reboot either if they hit a wall. Studios don't want to put the effort in to correct flaws instead of starting over from scratch. I guess it depends on which option is the best. Does the FF series really NEED rebooting? Did Spiderman? I can see recasting happening with the DCverse before I see full on reboots though. Marvel studios will be facing that same issue in few years when certain actors want to move on and marvel doesn't want to retire certain characters. They'd be crazy to reboot. No need to either.

I hear you.... I guess to me it's a case by case basis personally on what I would and wouldn't like to see rebooted versus recast (if they needed to). Spiderman I would have preferred them to just recast the leads and kept the Raimi backstory, if they weren't going to continue with Raimi. Fantastic Four- mixed. I actually liked enough of the second one, but Doctor Doom was so horribly re-imagined that it could be rebooted. (Not to mention needing to recast Johnny Storm anyhow). But- I worry about the changes already. MOS- Also mixed. My first choice already died (SR 2) a long death, and I would have rather MOS had been better- but MOS is so different from my own take of him, I'm oddly apathetic here. A reboot or recast has to happen in a number of years anyways. X-men- tough to say. The continuity is all over the place, but the films are amazing to me when Singer's involved--- and there's so many stories that it feels like it'd only be worth a real reboot if there's a solid blueprint for a series of films with the same actors, rather than just going one at a time. Pity that it seems to take an actual book series to push a studio to think long term (i.e. Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Twighlight) in terms of movies and sticking close to source material...

Yeah I agree with you. It's case by case
As much as I disliked things in the FF films I think they should have just recast. That way it would be easier of Fox is doing their own shared universe. They fracked up by losing Daredevil but their loss is Marvel and the fans gain because they will do better with it. I think in the case of both the FF and Spidey franchises the studios knew they missed opportunities with certain things (Death of Gwen Stacy, the Goblins, Peters high school years, Dr Doom, Galactus) by fracking up the first time. Reboots would allow them to go back and exploit those things. It's the same with the Xmen series but I think they felt the good outweighed the bad. The X films need rebooting the least. There's enough material there to go on for years. First class was half reboot half prequel. I think after APOCALYPSE though someone should consider a reboot to redo certain things better. All the time travel gives them an in story way to do it. The original cast is aging and even the newer cast members are becoming too big for the series. Lawrence and Fassbender have far bigger things ahead than doing Xmen movies.
Ideally I'd want Marvel to reboot Spidey, the FF, and the Xmen and fit them into their cinematic universe. Maybe even keep the Fox and Sony continuity but with new actors. But all those properties really need to go home. Id let Fox wrap up what they are doing with the Xmen. The nu Spideyverse does nothing for me. FF sounds like a clusterfrack in the making. A bigger slap in the face of the comics than the Tim story films
I can't see a Marvel rebooting but if they did it would be awesome to have one universe wide comic book style mega event that reshapes the universe and brings in the Fox and Sony properties. Have everything start together from ground zero. But hopefully that's a decade or two away.
Even now if Sony, Fox, and Disney could get on the same page they could steamroll any announcement WB and DC could make. Imagine a multi studio multi film saga. A mega cinematic event. WB alone doesn't have the resources or the wow factor to do that. Their biggest aces are Batman vs Superman and JL Movies. If Fox and Disney announced Xmen vs Avengers tomorrow it would be huge. Or the next Wolverine ending with Nick Fury and a SHIELD team there to have a "talk" with Logan. Cap and Logan fighting during WWII would be wild. There are just too many possibilities. A shame the suits don't see them.

A shame the suits don't see them. I love your ideas Metallo- but I have a mixed reaction of what I think would be feasible, given how we know how fragile the whole ecosystem seems to be in getting ONE good superhero movie made at a studio- let alone crossovers (something that I'm glad Joss Whedon was highly credited and rewarded for in Avengers- the movie itself is 'pretty good', but not great- but given how many challenges it had, it's amazing it didn't horribly suck, period, methinks.)...not to mention having multiple studios involved (too many egos I would think clashing). The companies seem far too competitive to share anything this huge- but I could be wrong, and I agree that it could be greatly beneficial to all. Another factor, though- even assuming that studios did agree to collaborate would be this: The thing I think is: we know right off the bat now that the clock is ticking for every actor cast in a superhero picture & that even when a single studio seems to have their act together enough (Looking at Marvel Productions)- they still come out with a stinker now and then (Ghost Rider, Iron Man 2)... and/or even if a film is good (Xmen/X2)- there's that question of enough worthy screentime for the characters involved in ONE comic (especially a group film like Xmen) movie- let alone teamups. Thor/Iron Man/Captain America/Hulk were perfect for using for the Avengers (and it looks like Avengers 2)- but it's hard for me to picture an Xmen vs. Avengers movie unless it were a three hour movie or split into two two-hour films (which I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to at all) to give all the characters enough screentime to be there. On the flip side, one fan somewhere I think suggested all the properties being under one tentpole of Marvel Studios- but I think it was mentioned somewhere that if that were the case- less comic book movies would be made- period. And I could see that- if Marvel owned all the rights to all their characters now- I don't know that we would be seeing even more films necessarily- they might worry about overflooding their own market. Having different characters at different studios might just be giving us MORE films than we would otherwise. Maybe. (By the way, I'm with you on the rebooted 'meh' Spiderman. Although I thought 3 was horrible, I thought Sam Raimi's version seemed so personal, that his Peter Parker made the series immensely rewatchable. The new guy cast I think is ok- but I don't get the feeling that they're capturing the spirit of the Spiderman comics as well as Raimi did.)

Nah I don't think it'll ever happen. I'm just saying it would be cool if it did and the studios pulled it off. Like I said in my original post though the suits just don't get it. Ego and greed will probably keep something like that from ever happening. The movie could be done in one. They'd just need small pieces in other films to set it up. Just needs the right writer. Avengers proved that. What Marvel did people said couldn't be done but they did it. It's all about how it's introduced and a writer that can juggle that many characters and the premise.

Even with Joss Whedon's resume- I'm still in awe that he was able to give each character in Avengers (*except maybe for Captain America, but even then- in the deleted scenes, JW actually did give him more chracter stuff-pity it didn't stay in) their 'scene' or two to really shine- but at the same have a significant larger story for all of them. I'm thrilled if early word is that the second script is even better (and with 3 more heroes? Wow.) On another note: I do find it interesting that in the Avengers/X-men case- the rights as they are allowed BOTH of them to use Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch- and that both companies are using (at least) Quicksilver without having to consult the other. I guess it's sort of a crossover. I'm curious if there are other Marvel rights 'loopholes' that we'll see in the future that allow other 'sortof' crossovers as well. (Crossing fingers for other crossovers) And... I think I've said it before, but would have LOVED to have seen the egg on WB exec's faces when Avengers crossed the billion dollar mark, given that previously they had access to Joss Whedon's genius for Wonder Woman years ago, but gave him the boot/drove him to end up quitting.

Does the general public know the name of the guy who played Superman in MoS?

To be fair, I doubt the general public knows who the name of the guys are that play the Hulk, Captain America, and Thor as well. Routh got big buzz (I think) because of the giant amount of time that sat there between Superman IV and Superman Returns. It was meant to be a big event, and sort of was.
With MOS, there wasn't that much time and I think there were so many other higher profile superhero movies that had come out since that any superhero film that comes out now feels like less of a major event than it might have previously in the past.... let alone who stars in it. (My guess anyhow)

Well- I think it's because for almost ten years, Superman was the ONLY big-budget superhero movie around (until Batman '89)- studios still didn't seem to have any faith in jumping in with their own supehero film.... so, in that case, the Superman movies REALLY were an event. Now, (for good and bad), actors probably feel way more 'safe' at not being typecast in a superhero film as they won't get the amount of press like Reeve (or Keaton did at the time of Batman '89) did for Superman. It's sad for Reeve in general how life turned out- considering that he was a household name- but still even when I think about him now, (as other people might as well) I think not just of Superman but of his bravery to keep on fighting for a cause even when confined to his chair.

I think it's a shame that Singer cancelled his appearance, I presume innocent before proven guilty (and the context of the claims has me raising an eyebrow- just don't know enough about the details of the situation) but I actually think most geeks at Wondercon and Comicon seem to get more outraged if a comic character is wearing the wrong color costume than a director's personal affairs. (Been to a few of these events) Don't get me wrong- I don't have sympathy for those who assault others- but there's no evidence, only an accusation--- and I have less sympathy for those who try to exploit the law for their own gains- which may or may not be the case here, too. In any case--- would have liked to have seen Singer talk about X:Days at Wondercon via youtube. What a pity.

In reading more of this story- it seems the accuser has been to several parties over and over again were he alleges he got attacked at each party.... though no mention of a gun being pointed to his head to keep going to these parties. Very suspicious stuff....
But-
Irritating that this has to happen to a favorite supehero film director, or all directors. Why couldn't it have been Michael Bay instead? Ough.
