... it's amazing what has and hasn't been open/ found/ released to the world with the Reeve/Donnerverse Superman films-
On the plus side:
(1) The International cut and the STM 2001 dvd released many deleted scenes in high quality (though not the missile dodging Supes in hi-q sadly)
(2) Many deleted scenes from SII by Donner on various tv cuts
(3) MOST of the deleted scenes from SIV
(4) A good number of documentaries from the 2001 dvd and then new ones from the box set
(5) Bits of the Reeve and Kidder screen tests
(6) Singer's "Return to Krypton" sequence and some deleted bits
(7) A chunk of never-released bits from Donner's SII- most famously the DP jump and the Brando scenes
(8) Mank's shooting scripts for STM and SII-
(9) A pretty awesome Hot Toys figure of Reeve's Superman-
(10) (although this is actually much further down the list)- the international cut of "Supergirl" that's neat to see, even if it's a pretty horrible movie.
On the down side----
Even with Man of Steel doing well box-office wise, it didn't push WB to provide more of what's missing-
Like:
(1) A good number of great bits in dvd quality that we all saw on the SII tv version- (Arctic Police/the full balcony scene/the full Lois/Clark talking afte the destruction of the FOS)
(2) The last 'big' deleted scene from SIV (the Metro dance sequence) that keeps it from being totally comprehensible when put together-
(3) Any video of rehearsals or read-throughs by the cast?
(4) Alternate takes of favorite sequences?
(5) the 'Mount Rushmore' bits that supposedly were better shot by Donner's group?
And.... surprisingly the PUZO 'phone book' version of the script.
I guess it's cool that we got as much as we all did with the box set, the blu-ray box set & all- and all these great photos on the web (especially on Caped Wonder's and Alex's sites)- but I think at this stage- the last 'wish list' before I die would be to see these available:
(1) A 'perfected' improved second SII Donner Cut
(2) The last remaining SIV sequence
(3) The Puzo script and any other notes/storyboards/bits from SII under Donner's care.
Anyhow- Grateful for what we got (which in hindsight quite a bit), but will be greedy for more, although hard to envision any incentive or push for WB to do so in the future.
Ah well....
