I just realised MoS came out in June 2013, so it is just two years old.
Time flies.
Now that the dust settled, I really cringe when I remember how excited I was in the months leading up to it. Every new trailer or tv spot made me feel like a child again.
Looking back, the whole build up and subsequent disappointment cycle was one of Phantom Menace proportions.

I don't know if this equals the disappointment of the Phantom Menace-
Even on first viewing, I felt like somehow a fan cut might be able to fix some performances and story issues with MOS...
With Phantom Menace, I can't think of any fan cut saving that one... too many bothersome elements to me in that.

I don't cringe since the trailers looked good but I wish I hadn't gotten sucked in to the marketing. We all know Hollywood can make great trailers that make stinkers look like good. MOS wasn't a stinker but it wasnt what it was marketed as and it didn't deliver.

After seeing GOTG I've got to give more of the credit for the Dawn of the Dead remake to James Gunn. And even that has some of Snyder's usual failings.

Dawn of the Dead is the only Snyder film I haven't seen- but heard it was not bad. James Gunn, on the other hand..... I suffered through his "Super" and "Specials" and am scratching my head as to how that same guy was able to make Guardians of the Galaxy. Hollywood is weird...

Gunn comes from the Troma school of filmmaking. He knows how to make a film on a limited budget and make ends meet. I think he also wrote those awful Scooby Doo movies too. But he wrote be DOTD remake which is at least entertaining the tone is all him. You can tell after watching GOTG.

It wasn't perfect, but it reminded me in spirit of the original Star Wars trilogy in a number of ways. At the same time, really thought his writing/directing on "Super" and "Specials" were just terrible..... Kevin Feige had to have known something the ordinary moviegoer didn't- and I'm glad to be pleasantly surprised.
