Clark rushes in with fast energy (Why? Did he have a surge of energy once he got to the fortress? Then why didn't we see that in the editing?), takes one second to kick the crystal ground to search for an existing crystal (Why did he give up so fast? One second?), then dove straight into the Mank monologue, mumbling, then screams 'Fatha!!!'--- then quickly goes into 'agree' mode with Brando, and 'fatha, no...!'.
To me, it's possibly a result of the misguided 'faster faster' takes that Donner (according to Thau) requested in 2006--- I maintain that Donner is fully capable of great performances, and that he probably did a million takes with Reeve and Brando- (the depowering scene- except for missing Margot closeups, seems fine)- but the wrong takes were chosen for both, or (since this was filmed early on), maybe Donner knew it had problems but knew he would return.
In any case, a poll!

Wasn't exactly sure which option fit my opinion so I voted that something was off. I though Brando was ok in the repowring. Sure he could have been better but it was good. I thought Reeve wasn't as good as he could have been and had the weaker performance of the two. I thought Reeve overplayed it. It was too theatrical and over the top.

When I read it, I imagined the reading as more dynamic and urgent- as if Jor-el wasn't going to be sure that the batteries were going to last before he transferred his 'life force' to Clark. Without Jor-el being forceful, and Brando's reading of the lines as if dying/tired.... I feel it gave Reeve few options with the script as written. Maybe. In any case- It's probably 'the' Donner scene that hurts the most because you don't feel anything but feel like you should from it.
