www.darkhorizons.com/ben-affleck-will-not-direct-the-batman/Well the bad news keeps coming for DC. Better this happens now than for there to be problems later though. Not hard to read between the lines. Affleck played a very public game of putting WB in their place by saying he wouldn't direct unless the script was right and he had time to develop it. Now this happens. WB clearly wanted the film for a certain release date that Affleck wasnt comfortable with. I can't blame him but him with so much control was one thing that had me interested in this film. He wasn't going to put his reputation as a director on the line. As an actor most of the blame wouldn't fall on him if the film is poorly recieved. Live by Night bombing didn't help either. Looks like it might be a 75 million dollar loss for WB. That weakens Afflecks clout/bargaining power and probably makes WB nervous to see their Batman director deliver a flop.

What I wonder is: How darn hard is it to come up with a good script for a Batman movie? And should it take THAT long? I've said it before: there are some fantastic tv writers out there who deliver fast (hi Joss Whedon) and now and then create things that are as good as if not better than what's on the big screen. Anyhow.... that is sad, but having one bad film after another at WB is unlikely to result in a deal with Marvel Studios to take over THOSE properties as well. Getting back Spiderman is one thing, but.... I just can't see how Marvel Studios can (or should) do ALL the superhero properties without greatly reducing all the output that they're currently putting out.
