If the world survives long enough, it'll be interesting to see what the next version of Superman is-
In the movies, Supes has gone from the fairly upbeat Donner version- to the Singer version (How bizzare to think that there had been NO Superman movie in between the Donner films and the Singer time) which took that, but made that world a bit darker- to 'uber-dark' with MOS.
In tv, we had the Salkinds' "Superboy" which even Ilya admits was horrible for a first season, but got progressively better and had a very 'comic book ' feel as it went on (and sadly never had a budget for something like the Legion, but...) , "Lois and Clark" which had mixed success being a romantic comedy- to the incredibly angsty "Smallville" which amazingly had a run of ten years (wow!).
I know it's been said that art reflects the times- but given that, technology has made things so much easier in so many ways, that it's a little bizzare that mainstream comics (though videogames too) have felt a need to be 'darker' and 'darker' though life in general has been easier.
I don't begrudge WB for wanting a full-on reboot after SR- but it was so poorly executed that it eventually will need it again, but.... how?
Brighter direction? Yet darker direction?
What types of things would it take for the property to feel fresh and yet feel faithful at this point (especially as it even competes with itself)?

I definitely think they'll go lighter especially if the DCEU continues to fail. It'll be hard from them to go any darker than they already have and they'll be even further removed from Nolan's dark knight trilogy. Who knows what other movie will be making big bucks and setting the trends they'll want to cash in on. If it's something lighter they'll go lighter. The pendulum eventually swings back. The CW Superman was clearly as response to the mixed reaction the DCEU Superman has gotten. The next cinematic version will do the same. Then they'll try to go darker again after that one to try to be different. It's just like how the Superman actors have gone back and forth between the clumsy clutzy timid Clark Kent and the more assertive Everyman Clark Kent. Each guy wants to do something different from the actor before him

I don't know if we need 'son of Thor' /whatnot- but if I had the power of Feige, I'd keep on going and going to expand the Marvel universe with all of its worthy properties= without rebooting.... and maybe doing a 'guest spot' of RDJ or Helmsworth, etc.- as older characters even after they've done 'their' trilogy solo movies. Reeve once said he wouldn't have minded doing a cameo for the Burton Batman movie. How cool would that have been?
