Huh. Interesting.
I watched "Apocalypse" the other day. frack...it was...fantastic. REALLY darn good.
I'm truly not for Welling as Superman, he just can't cut the mustard in a movie, but in a TV show, sure. He can do it fine. But not in a motion picture. He doesn't have the voice or the talent or the presence for it. Routh destroys him in every angle as far as playing Superman and Clark goes. But Welling IS pretty darn good.
That "I don't give up," part was really awesome, as was the glasses part.
I really liked the Elseworlds aspect of that episode. That single episode was almost better than the entire series.

There be some good stuff in there, Kev. There's at least five episodes per season that are pretty darn good.
Welling has a lot of potential, he's just giving a lot of crap to work from most of the time. His voice doesn't bother me, he can make his voice a little deeper.. Clark Kent has aways had the tenor voice while Superman always had the baritone voice.

Nah, I've seen him in other stuff. That's his voice.
Plus...it all comes right down to what bothered me the very first time I ever saw Tom Welling:
His nostrils.
I just....can't take'em. Can't handle'em. They're huge. Superman doesn't have huge, flaring nostrils.

Huh? What about your HDTV? You can just plug rabbit ears into that and pick up CW in HD. Edit: Oh, just read the Ike thread. Never mind.

Will regular rabbit ears pick up and HD signal? Don't you have to have HD rabbit ears to do that?

No, that's just marketing spin for you. There's no physical difference between a regular old antenna and an HD antenna. There are "amplified" HD antennas, but comparing unpowered ones, they're practically the same.
HD is transmitted over a radio wave just like analog is.

Ah, so I can plug in my rabbit ears and I'll have Smallville in 1080i glory. Wow, thanks for the tip, James.

Here's to what should be the last season premiere of "Smallville."

I just put Smallville season 7 on my Netflix queue. I'll let you two (Kirok and Legsy) what I think of it. I'm sure I'll be lenient as usual. I expect some hilariously bad moments every now and then. ;D
The whole season on three discs, score!

Somehow, Smallville got dumber. But I continue to watch as I would the aftermath of a train wreck.
Bad acting, bad dialog, dumb plot. The "flashback" sequence just served to remind me how much better the second and third seasons were handled.

I thought it was a pretty good season premiere. Welling is looking more and more like Supey, Durance, well, I love her. This season might turn out okay after all.
Oh, and my old rabbit ears did pick up the HD signal. ;D
Thanks, Jim!

Overall "Odyssey" was a satisfying Season Premiere. Not the best, but not the worst either. It did an admirable job of continuing on from last season despite the major shifts in the series (no Lex, no Lana, no Supergirl, etc.). I must say the absence of Lex is being handled quite well. The "missing villain thought to be dead" is a very comic book scenario, and as awesome as Rosenbaum was on the show his character had really run its course. That said, he MUST return at the end of the season or the entire series is a failure. It's always been about Clark and Lex, and without a final confrontation between them things just wouldn't feel complete. I'm very excited to have Justin Hartley as a regular this season. His Green Arrow is a stand-in for Batman in the "Smallville" universe, but it works great considering the similarities between the two heroes. It's also nice for Clark to have another guy friend around, something he's been without for 4 seasons now. Hartley and Welling have a great chemistry and their interactions are always fun to watch. Speaking of chemistry, I'll tell you who doesn't have any: Tom Welling and Erica Durance. Their "relationship" is SO forced. It's obvious they're trying to get everyone where they need to be in the future, but unfortunately (like Lana before her), the Lois character has NO chemistry with Clark. Well, I take that back. They have the same brother/sister chemistry they've had for the last 4 seasons, but that doesn't help in the romance department. Allison Mack's Chloe should have become the Lois of the future, but the powers that be have totally dismantled her character and given her entire life to Lois now. It's a shame they refuse to acknowledge the great chemistry between Welling and Mack. At least she's got second billing in the credits now. And while I'm glad they've done away with Chloe's healing power, I have no idea where they're going with her character now. Obviously her encounter w/Brainiac has something to do with it. Hmmm. Finally, the Martian Manhunter is the dues ex machina of this series. I'm sure he'll get his powers back soon, and then maybe Phil Morris will get more than one scene an episode. Here's to him joining the Justice League, who btw they did a great job with as always. Next week is the introduction of DOOMSDAY! Or at least the man who will become Doomsday by the end of the series. Geoff Johns gave it his vote of confidence so I'm putting my faith in his better judgement.

Oh, Justin Hartley as Green Arrow is a regular now? Sweet. He's everything Whitney and Jason Teague were NOT.
I agree with you on the Clark/Lois thing. They play together better when they're making wise cracks at each other. The thought of them hooking up just makes me laugh.
BTW, up until now, who DOESN'T know Clark's secret? ;D

Does this mean he's gonna have to memory-wipe-lip-whammy everyone? ;D Yeah, I can imagine it now. Pete comes back to do one episode, and here's what he sees when Clarks shows up. Clark: LAY ONE ON ME, BIG BOY!

GREAT episode tonight IMO.
I'll go ahead and say it now. Tom Welling had me believing tonight.
"Don't come near me, I'll hurt you"
"No you won't..."
That was awesome, I couldn't get the smile off my face. The opening scene with him saving people on the bus had me freaking out a little bit. FINALLY!!
The final scene at The Planet between Clark and Lois was also very good. I enjoyed the Davis Bloome character as well. Looking forward to see where this all goes this season. It seems as though Durance is finally displaying qualities of Lois.
Here's a question for fans that have followed the show from the start. Why in the heck have they never gotten Clark and Chloe together? Mack is just great, it's very hard not to have a crush on her. The chemistry between the two of them is real.
Overall, a solid A from me tonight.

Here's a question for fans that have followed the show from the start. Why in the heck have they never gotten Clark and Chloe together? Mack is just great, it's very hard not to have a crush on her. The chemistry between the two of them is real. Good to see other recognize this. The main relationship of the series has always been Clark & Lana. Everything else, and I mean EVERYTHING else, came second to this, and Gough & Millar's (but mostly Gough's) obsession with all things Kristen Kreuk was one of the series' greatest shortcomings. To that end, while Allison Mack received overwhelming positive feedback from the start, had incredible chemsitry with Tom Welling, was a better actress, and had a far more interesting (and superior) character to play in Chloe, Lana remained the centerpiece of the series. You'll note that until last season, she got second billing after Welling, before Rosenbaum! Clark & Chloe's overall relationship has been one of the series strongest aspects, despite never being given the chance at an all- out romance. There've been various sparks and short spurts of romance throughout the years, but nothing more unfortunately. Many fans (myself included) wanted Chloe to eventually become Lois Lane, a perfectly reasonable scenario in the "Smallville" universe, but as things stand currently that theory's pretty much dead. If you like the Clark/Chloe dynamic I would definitely recommend Season 5. It's the best season IMO, and builds up Clark and Chloe vs. Lex and Lana.

A pity I wasn't able to catch the beginning, I came 20 minutes late. Good Lord, I'm actually watching a season of Smallville. Have I been body-snatched and didn't notice?

No, it's just turning out to be a great season.
They should have ditched Kreuk eight years ago.
