That's all levels of "WTF?" Nice assgrab there, except that he seems to have five fingers and no thumb.

Cute yeah, but a bit disturbing. I think it's the shading on the suit.

I don't think it's distrubing at all. That painting put a smile on my face. Thank you, Gazer.

The characters in that painting look way too old to be Routh and Bosworth.

And even though I find the painting REALLY CUTE, there is something off about it that I can't quite tell.. could it be the assgrab? I'm not sure. ;D Legsy, your welcome. I'm glad you liked it.

yeah i mean he doesnt represent superman of today..your looking back on the 40s. Reeve's costume mirrored the look superman had at the time..Yeah superman had huge cape in the 86 but it was wasnt a anorak like you compared it too. Rouths cape is a giant anorak and looks shite..when he gets beaten up by luthor and he lays there on his knees great scene by the way but that anarok cape sticks out like a sore thumb!..really lame..oh and superman needs the yellow 's' on the back aswell. why didnt they include that?.
I know singer was trying to please everyone with the suit but you cant please everyone and he should have just stuck to how superman looked today in the comics!.
Downwithrouth from reading your comments you love the look of the old cartoon which is great but imao Superman should represent on film how it he looks in the comics of today.
Im not in a minority more people hate the new suit and than like it..you guys could go on for years trying to explain to people how good it is and why its so perfect but you will find there are not many fans of that costume.

I hated the new suit.. poor colours Which have been used in previous incarnations. This wasn't the first time. Um...Superman's had a big cape in the comics since 1986. What's the problem? Which comics? The '40s comics with a small emblem and an occasional S-buckle? The Earth-2 comics with an S-buckle? The "Exile," Kingdom Come, and "Our Worlds at War" comics with darker red and blues? The Lee Bermejo comics with tricked-out boots, a 3D emblem, and heavy fabric detailing? The comics at least since '86 where Superman's cape is long and heavy?
Does anyone who complains about the costume have any concept of Superman's design history beyond their pet incarnation? Design and color variations happen all the time.
Uh...if his cape isn't regal, he might as well be wearing a bath towel.
Funny, I like this Superman much better:
For a guy named downwithrouth, you're pretty determined to defend the costume.

So your saying Superman should look like one guys artistic impression?..
Superman suit should be bright and colorful and stand out!..not this horrible muted look in SR..nuff said.

oh and superman needs the yellow 's' on the back aswell. why didnt they include that?. The only reason it wasn't included was because it would've been too difficult to work in with the CGI flying sequences. My main problem with the whole Fleischer look that Singer went for in SR is that there's no reality. To Donner New York was Metropolis. A real city. Where's Singer doctored buildings and sets to portray more of a classic art deco look.

Maybe Routh's suit would look better on an actor with a better physique, but it's also possible that it's responsible for hurting Routh's physique. There's no way to know for sure. I just know that the way Routh looks in the suit doesn't please me. It's a mix of several bad elements coming together to create an unimpressive looking Man of Steel. In some shots his physique looks downright embarassing.. where he seems to have the definition of a tube of toothpaste, with a few bumps that seem like padding to break up the monotony.

Routh physic was just fine. He did look pretty big on the documentary. The problem was the fabric of the suit. Milliskin is a very tight fabric, tighter than Lycra or spandex.
Routh has said in countless interviews that he wants to be more buff for the sequel. It's clear that he is working on getting bigger, judging by recent pictures.

Well, I think he is plenty 'buff' right now. It's well-known that most people get 'thicker' as they age. I'm sure Brandon can get bigger if he needs to. And let's be honest, Chris didn't look that big in STM and SII ALL the time; there are scenes where he looks pretty average.

the problem with the suit is the lack of rubber nipples.

Superman DOES have a huge cape now in the comics (like Routh), the shield is often drawn shiney and slightly raised (like Routh), and the cape has at various times had no S on the back (like Routh).
Singer's costume was inspired by Superman's entire history from comics to cartoons to other films/shows...just like a lot of other comic book characters in film and tv. That booster on the Back of the Batmbile..The West tv show made that idea stick. The Flash's CURRENT costume...inspired by the Shipp tv show. If they can do it why can't Singer?

You're talking about of both sides of your mouth here. You complain that Routh doesn't wear the costume of the comics yet in the comics New York and metropolis are TOTALLY separate citys that coexist!
You discard the comics when its convenient for you. Bruce Timm didn't draw metropolis like the comics either.
Chris Nolan didn't use New York as Gotham and like Singer maybe he was smart to try to give his heroes city a separate identity so it didn't take the audience totally out of the movie.

My main problem with the whole Fleischer look that Singer went for in SR is that there's no reality. To Donner New York was Metropolis. A real city. Where's Singer doctored buildings and sets to portray more of a classic art deco look. So by that logic, Singer couldn't use any sets either (or Donner for that matter). Because after all, sets aren't real. They're large rooms inside film studio buildings doctored to portray real or fictional places.

Those pictures depict a suit that doesn't have a lot of the elements people complain about. The red is still relatively bright, the logo is large, the neckline is wide, and the shorts aren't quite as small. I didn't know anyone had a problem with a large, flowing cape, though. Even Reeve's was long.

Naaaaah, no it wasn't. It's short. I've always thought it was short. It's always been, since I was a little kid, my only complaint about the suit. In the movie.
