Not that shitty. Even Furie was smart enough to use Hackman. Bay was too busy sucking himself off to get Frank Welker.
I'd even take Jon Cryer over Shia.

ANYone would be " smart " to use hackman. he only did it as a favor to chris reeve. yeah- jon cryer is a lot less douche than shia..... @#%^shia!!

put them into little pods , and let themlive in comfortable " virtual realities " where they are shielded from any real danger. use thier metabolism as a natural , rewable energy source . for the sake of society , euthenise any resistance. Hahahaha! Nice. Speaking of the Reeve/Hackman chemistry, it's far superior to Routh/Spacey, even in SIV. And it's not just he performance, it's the writing too (which is a shame considering this is Superman IV: The Quest for Peace we're talking about). I've brought this up before, and probably will again, but compare: "Goodnight sweet prince. Parting is...inevitable!" to "Now fly!"

interesting comparison....
although, in SIV its salkind/donnerverse earth-1 , and it is set many years after the events of SII.
in SR , its a salkind/donner/singer-verse earth-2 , and it supercedes SIII and SIV so lex is lot less .... playfull and thoughtful about doing superman in.

To be fair SIV was Reeve and Hackman 3rd movie and 2nd shoot working together. They'd had time to really work out things and expand on their natural chemistry even if there was a weak script.
With SR it was the first time out and neither one of them were as talky to each other (which makes since if Lex is more bitter at Superman than ever). He did shank the dude after all. probably one of the most violent things I've ever seen Lex Luthor do on film.
