hi I have a question if superman is basically the same character why is it in superman returns and smalville it took a young kal el a long time to master his flying powers, heat vision,....etc? while in superman II the 3 villians were able to fly, use heat vision flawlessely. one would think if you can sudenly fly the high altituted might scare you at first. any detailed help is greatley appreciated. It's fun to see what other members have to say about this. superfuzzman

Yea.. it was also weird that the villains were old when Kal El was a baby but then Kal El grows up but the villains don't age! I guess they were in outer space so time had dialated or whatever.
I think the super powers manifested themselves at puberty so the villains had them right away. Clark's super speed first kicked in when he first "noticed" Lana at the football field! He was racing to "get it on" with Lana because he was so excited!

it's just a different take on a young superman. no big deal. i like the idea of him developing his powers as he matures as opposed to having them all as soon as he comes to earth.

As one of the elders said, it's an eternal living death, meaning they won't die as long as they're inside, which obviously means they won't age either.

If Jor-El knew Krypton was gonna explode, why didn't he just go against the council and let the villians go so they'd die on Krypton?

Well, I'm sure they'd wreak havok in the time before Krypton's destruction, and an upstanding citizen like Jor-El wouldn't allow that to happen.

I beg to differ as ordinary Kryptonians w/out any special powers Zod and Co. would have bidded their time scheming and planning and waited to strike until the time was right. Political machinations would have to be put into place and it would take time.... like Palpatine in Star Wars. Krypton would have exploded long before Zod and Co. would have had the time to stage their coup.

I don't think Jor-El has that sortof "lets drop everything because we'll be dead soon anyway" attitude.

I heard they were planning to go around Krypton and destroy all its key monuments, like the jewel mountains, krytonopolis, argo city, council dome and so on.

well if jor el was also improsoned seperatly in the phantom zone then he might have lived. maybe it was better for him to have been improsoned then instant death on krypton?
