What is the next PG-13 Animated Movie By DC after GREEN LANTERN? AICN Has the Scoop! Hey folks, Harry here with the scoop on the next animated film scheduled for release in the Fall of 2009 from Warner Animation. This time it is SUPERMAN/BATMAN: PUBLIC ENEMIES based upon the Jeff Loeb and Ed McGuinness comic series. Bruce Timm is the Executive Producer on the film and is currently actually in production!!! Here's the logo and the plot synopsis that I got my grubby hands upon! SUPERMAN/BATMAN: PUBLIC ENEMIES: United States President Lex Luthor uses the oncoming trajectory of a kryptonite asteroid to frame Superman and declare a $1 billion bounty on the heads of the Man of Steel and his “partner in crime” Batman. Super heroes and super villains alike launch a relentless pursuit of Superman and Batman, who must unite – and recruit super help – to stave off the action-packed onslaught, stop the asteroid, and uncover Luthor’s devious plot to take command of far more than North America. Sounds cool but would it have killed them to do more non Superman/Batman stuff. That Judas Contract movie sounded like all kinds of coolness. How about something with Hawkman, or Flash?

There was a mention in Wizard Magazine one time that they might do "The Great Darkness Saga", adapted from the classic Legion of Super-Heroes story. Superman/Batman should be good, but I wanna see some Legion action.

Sounds alright. Public enemies was a fun romp. Too bad they're so adamant about this stuff not being Timmverse continuity though, as this would be a nice post JLU thing.

As much as I respect Timm for what he has brought to the DC animated universe over the past 15 or so years. I must say the animation style needs to go. If these projects are not connected to the Timmverse, they need to look/feel like something new. The animation style (Among alot of other things) ruined Superman Doomsday for me.

Yeah I do think a post JLU movie would be good! I don't even see why they cancelled it as it was such a great series! I just watched every episode of BTAS and going to watch all of Superman & JL again! Looking forward to it!! Weren't they talking about a JL movie in the continuity of JL??

Couldn't agree more. While I thought Doomsday kinda sucked, it would have been much more interesting/relevant had it been a post JLU Timmverse story.
New Frontier is it's own entity, so I can understand that one.
Either give us new animation styles, or put 'em in JLU continuity!

I wish they'd do Kingdom Come already. But to do it justice, they would have to expand the 70 minute time frame of these straight to DVD movies. And hopefully, they will be smart enough to remain as faithful to the original comic series as possible and not completely re-do it like the Doomsday movie.

www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=20453Jeph Loeb is presently writing two top-selling books for Marvel Comics with “Hulk” and “Ultimatum.” But before he moved to the House of Ideas, Loeb was selling 100,000-plus copies a month of “Superman/Batman” for DC Comics. It was recently revealed that Loeb’s first arc on the blockbuster book, “Public Enemies,” penciled by fan favorite Ed McGuinness (now his creative partner on “Hulk”), is set to be Warner Bros.’ next original DC Universe animated feature after the release of “Green Lantern: First Flight” in July. CBR News checked in with Loeb to see how much he’s involved in the project, and who he thinks would be the best choices to voice the two iconic characters. CBR: You must be thrilled to see “Superman/Batman: Public Enemies” coming to life in animated form?J eph Loeb: It’s the greatest! Ed and I had so much fun on that arc, to see it “live” will be very, very cool. When you wrote the story back in 2003, did you ever think, “Man, this would make a great movie,” live-action or animated?Well, because I work in TV and film and animation, heck yes! Did I think it would happen? heck no! Does it get any bigger than a story starring Superman and Batman? Are you reading “Ultimatum?” But seriously, “Public Enemies” is a pretty massive story. I’m curious as to what they’re going to do with it. So you’re not involved in the project? They asked me to write the script and I really, really wanted to, but I was on “Heroes” and my schedule was just too full. So, no, I haven’t had anything to do with it. But, I’m a huge Bruce Timm [Executive Producer] fan, as he knows since I dog him at conventions, and I’m sure he’s going to make it even better than the comic. What about McGuinness? Is he involved?I spoke to Ed this morning and he told me they had approached him to do designs, but his schedule was too full, as well. We both would’ve loved to be involved. Do you know if Warner Bros. is sticking pretty close to your original storyline?Don’t know, but it appears so. When I was talking to Gregory Novak, the exec at Warner Bros. who covers DC, they wanted to stay as true to the original material as possible. That included it looking like Ed’s style. Who would you love to hear voicing the iconic lead characters?Just get me the cast from “Batman: The Animated Series” and “Superman: The Animated Series.” Those guys rock. [The roles were played by Kevin Conroy and Tim Daly, respectively.] Do you know if there are any plans to adapt any other “Superman/Batman” arcs as animated features?Don’t know. The “Supergirl” story, particularly if they do it in [artist] Mike Turner’s style, would be awesome. From “Smallville” to “Lost” to “Heroes,” you’ve been moving from genre hit to genre hit for the past six or seven seasons. When will we hear about your next television project? Sooner than you think. ----------------------------------------------------------------- It'll be a huge let down to me if they use McGuinness' style for the characters. I hate it, and that's the one reason why I haven't bought the book. I'd like a more realistic design for this movie. *sigh*

I love McGuinness' art, and it's not much of a stretch from McGuinness to the JLU style. SO WHY NOT MAKE THIS PART OF THAT CONTINUITY?!?!?
bah. BAH, I say.

It just maka no sense.
I look forward to this, sure, but c'mon. The Timmverse RULES ALL.
What does the GL thing come out? I'm chompin' at the bit for that.

If Supes looks more like this, I can deal (yes, this art is by McGuinness for a story called "Return to Krypton"): BUT if he looks like this, I CAN'T deal. Meh, way cartoony:

Well...if it's a cartoon...it'll be okay if Superman looks cartoony.
I don't think that look works in a comic but it would in a cartoon, probably.

I'm glad they went for a different style, but it looks like all the extra detail caused them to forget to paint Supes' belt loops.

Is Conroy doing the voice of Bats?
Looks pretty damn good. I like the look of the animation but I hope it's a little more fluid than that, probably just the compression of the video for the web hopefully.

Man I just can't understand Batman and Superman coexisting in the same world. I mean it's just ridiculous... dressing up as a Bat when freaking Superman can just fly around and collect the bad guys.....
I love Batman so I want to protect him, don't make a mockery of him by putting him in the same universe as Superman! They try to make Batman all intelligent and Superman a dim wit to compensate for Superman being so much more powerful.
But realistically, Supes is WAY smarter than Bats because he has all the accumulated knowledge of Krypton science!
