I saw this in the recent chat with Warner Home Video: www.thedigitalbits.com/articles/032409htfchat.html[JoeCampos] Hi! I'm happy you're doing digital work on the MGM/Turner titles, and look forward to OZ and GONE WITH THE WIND on blu ray. Anyway, any chance you will revisit SUPERMAN: The Movie and SUPERMAN II in definitive editions on Blu Ray/DVD with the added TV footage and other new stuff? I was disappointed that no 30th Anniversary Edition of SUPERMAN was released. [warnerbros] Thanks for your kind words. We do appreciate them. As to SUPERMAN....Been there.. Done that..to great success two years ago.

These guys are morons. There's a LOT to be desired with the Superman Blu-rays. Standard DD5.1 just doesn't cut it anymore, and it can certainly use a new transfer. Then there's the simple fact that (the real) Superman II hasn't even been released yet!

THAT IS IT! I'm going to Hollywood to punch every single WB exec in the nose along with a groin kick! I must remember to wear my steel toe boots.

Oh right, very true!
I definitely want the theatrical version too, with LOSSLESS stereo sound.

They really know how to market Superman don't they? Sometimes I wonder what would happen if 20th Century Fox had the rights to Superman...

They pushed Superman HARD almost 3 years ago. Does anyone have sales info on the various releases the films got? They must not have been that good. I think At least the original version of Superman II deserves a Blu Ray release. But the market just might not support it at the moment. Plus one way or another a new superman film will eventually be made (In some form). That is when they will roll out the new releases again. But the fact that the special editions of the original films are currently 3 bucks at big lots, it doesn't look good that anything else is coming out soon.

There will be a Superman BluRay Boxset someday, I'm sure, but it won't get the works like extras or a clean up and it probably won't get lossless sound or anything.

I don't know about that. Warner recently has stepped up in the audio department, and is making available lossless audio on all their new releases.
For instance, Casablanca was released with only a standard 192kbps monaural track. People complained. So for Wizard of Oz and Citizen Kane (or was it Gone with the Wind?), they've promised lossless audio. Then last year, we had the reissue of Superman Returns with both PCM and TrueHD audio.
It could happen.

Superman sold very well 2.5 years ago. Warners will eventually come back to Superman, but now is NOT the time. I bet, say in two years time, Superman will be back on the agenda.

They'll return to it when the next film is coming up for release
We can hold a joint celebration: Superman's next film and my 50th b/day.

20 years ago, VCRs were in their prime; hard to believe they're almost extinct now. 20 years in the future, would be interesting.
Although Hurst will still be ranting about Routh! ;D

No idea if they will. It would be awesome if they did, but I think the optical effects would need to be cleaned up some more to make it work. Star Wars has had its effects already cleaned up quite siginificantly (although in some cases for the worst). However it still is a huge task to undertake which only Mr Lucas and co could do. You'd need someone like Lucas to do it, and frankly nobody on the Superman side of things has that power.

Oh God... there's not gonna be a Superman high period in two short years.... even 5 years would be a pretty liberal projection. Hate to say it but the boy in blue bit the big one big time... bummer! It's likely though in 5-10 years Superman will be back and in a big way! Why so glum everyone? For you SR luvers you got well... SR! I mean what more could you ask for you already got all you wanted. More than that we got Donner's SII scenes. And we are bitching becuz..... uhhhh we want another SR movie (God kill me if that cums to be oh lordie) and we are havin' hissy fits because we don't like how Donner's SII was edited? uhhh... I mean no one can really make a new cut (aside from Selutron to a degree) because to really re-cut SII (which takes years to learn how to do in a good way goin thru the dallies... deciding which actors coverage to play over whose line etc)..... quite an endeavor.... let someone (Please not Thau) do that and I'll watch it. Show me a SII fan version and I'll laugh and be amused by it (in a NICE WAY thank you very much......-edit PLEASE don't ban me muh Lords of the boards!) But what I won't DO..... what I REFUSE to every do is complain about what we already have infront of us. ahhhhh maybe a SR jab here and there... Rejoice my dear comrades for what we have... !
