I have a question lets just think that we only had donner'ssuperman II so when superman turned back time at the end wouldnt the missle have to re break the phantom zone since he is only going back in time?? so sorry if this has been discussed before!please give me some in depth detailed theories! thanks! superfuzzman

Yes it would. The whole ending to the movie doesn't make any sense.

I do recall the hypothesis that it isn't the world actually turning around, but rather Superman going back in time himself.
I think since we see the world actually stopping and having to be spun correctly again, that idea is debunked.
Anyway, it's a totally stupid idea that the villains were locked away again. They didn't even follow it up with the nuclear missile un-exploding. Very inconsistent. And why were the villains screaming when they got put back? Did they realize they were being ripped through time and forced back to the Zone? /facepalm

It's because they had to watch the Kremlin being rebuilt, the Eiffel Tower being unmelted (like a tin toy), the fires in Japan being extinguished and millions of Japanese going back to their homes, and the Washington Monument debris being lifted from the police cars and reassembled into the monument.
