I remember it was really confusing as a kid. My dad would tell me the green crystal was "good" kryptonite. That made sense until it was recently brought up. ;D

You brought back another old memory, Legsy.
I was kinda overprotected as a kid. So when the Jawas shoot R2-D2 in Star Wars ANH, I asked my dad why they did that and he replied, "Because they're changing his batteries."
Also, I was looking through one of his Bruce Lee books when I was a kid and there was a picture from Enter the Dragon when a girl commits suicide by stabbing herself in the stomach. In the picture, she's clenching her teeth and has her fists in her belly (you can't see the glass shard she used to stab herself). I asked my dad what was wrong with her, and he replied, "She's got a stomach ache."

Yeah , this is ultimately a needless thread. Superman The Movie was F'n Great with 'Theee Perfect Superman of all time-Reeve'. Is this simply a subject created in response for the Universal Disdain for SR? There is no Universal Disdain for SR. Careful, we just banned a troll for this very thing. On the contrary, I have encountered plenty of Feedback , both online and in person, about the Disdain or Dislike for the movie that was Superman Returns (& Dissapoints many). Let's just say the movie did not pass with 'Flying Colors' (Bc Singer darkened it) to the general movie going audience.

On the contrary, I have encountered plenty of Feedback , both online and in person, about the Disdain or Dislike for the movie that was Superman Returns. Aside from the Smallville army & a few bitchy naysayers, I haven't talked to that many people online who disliked it. And the ones who did dislike it seem mostly to be the ones who feel that their manhood was compromised because Superman didn't punch anything or people who are still upset because they weren't able to re-animate the corpse of Christopher Reeve so that it can play Superman again. In the real world I have yet to talk to one single person who disliked the film. Not one. Bullshit. The movie was released at a terrible time between 2 other huge franchises & had no room to breath, so, the the box office argument means nothing to me because it's WB fault for releasing it between X-Men & Pirates. As far as reception goes, the myth that it was badly reviewed was just that. SR got great reviews for the most part.

There's almost always a way to hear what one wants to hear, if he/she talks to the right people.
If Superman Returns was that bad, then many movie audiences would have buzzed about it so negatively that it probably would have died the next weekend. It didn't, and grossed $391 million worldwide instead.
Just having a movie with Superman (or even Reeve) in it doesn't mean that it is guaranteed to make $391 million. If that were true, then how does that explain Superman 3 or 4 making relatively so little? (* and the arguement that sequels must make less than the predecessor has been blown away by Xmen and TDK)
If Superman Returns was bad, then it would have died a LOT faster. How could a movie gross $391 million worldwide if the majority of audiences thought it a bad film? It just doesn't hold up.

Unfortunately, I didn't have Maverick's experience.
Most people I talked to thought it was, "Eh."
My brother loved it. I loved it, (though I do have a couple of strong nitpicks with it). In fact, I think my whole family liked it.
I know a lot of my co-workers thought it was kinda boring.

I loved SR. It was very good and more to me in the vain of STAS than STM. As Mav said, I know more who liked it that didn't. A few said it was slow. Others thought it was brilliant. I suppose thats the same with many movies. I can honestly tell you I know more who prefer it to the Godfather. Also, Routh as Superman in SR was better than Reeve as Superman in IV! There are so many saying Reeve was immaculate for Superman and he was for I, II & III but definately not IV. When everyone compares Routh to Reeve, they base it on STM and STM only.

I watched ETD again recently and wondered why she didn't try to kill Oharra with the glass instead of killing herself.

Remember walking out of the theater and there seemed to be a collective good feeling. Seemed that everyone had just seen a film that moved them. As far as critic reviews, it finished at 76% on rottentomatoes, which is pretty damn comparable to Batman Begins' 84%.

I went to see Superman the movie at the NFT London last July. When it finished and Superman flew past the screen, I was the ONLY ONE that applauded and the cinema was packed. The girl I was with dug me deep in the ribs for being the only applauder.
I loved seeing it on the big screen again. But the only scene which jarred isn't to do with the original theatrical version, it's the scenes Thau inserted such as Ma Kent waking her birdy up and the "You enjoyed it" Jorel and Superman scene.
I even remember people leaving to go to the toilet when that scene came up.

Conor, don't do anything rash! Dude, but what do you expect? Superman IV??? All bets are off there. Considering the writing and direction, the acting shouldn't have been as good as it was.

Most people I know have forgotton it; every single one of my family members have yet to see it (I advised them not to bother, I didn't know they'd take my opinion so seriously, lol).
The only reason I watch parts of it now and again is some of the visuals are good, the music and Routh and I'm a fan of the originals. If I wasn't in to Supes, I'd see no reason for wanting to watch a dreary, underwhelming movie.
SR better than the Godfather? Whoever thinks that has zero credibility. There are opinions and there is retardness. Take away the effects and music of SR and what do you have? A shit script and dispointing acting (apart from Routh and a couple others). The 3rd act drags on forever; the Godfather is compulsive viewing from start to end.

SR better than The Godfather? That's like saying Pee Wee Herman is stronger than Lou Ferrigno.

I definitely enjoy SR A LOT more than the Godfather. In fact, I find the Godfather saga kinda boring and a little overrated, but I do realize these are great, well-made movies, no doubt. But they still bore me. Just don't care about them enough. Most of these mob movies are like that to me.
SR is infinitely more moving to me.

Brandon is not only way hotter than Pacino, but he also played my favorite fictional character on the big screen and in a good movie. Easy choice.

So we can conclude that your interest in movies lie primarily on the actor's looks?
Because if The Godfather, the consensus greatest movie ever, can't hold your attention, then your opinions on films ultimately lie on whether you're attracted to the actor or not.

Why are you attacking her opinion? It's not required that people like The Godfather. Just because the consensus believes it, it's not fact. It's just a heckuva lot of opinions.

Yeah, what Jim said.
I do like The Godfather, but I prefer other movies over it. Easily. I like what I like.

I'm not challenging her dislike of The Godfather. I'm challenging her criteria for what makes a good movie. What? Aren't we allowed to do that? She's basically saying that a good looking actor makes a break a movie. I find that laughable. Deal with it.

For the record, I've never seen any of the Godfather films in their entirety.
They didn't grab me. I actually found them to be quite boring. But the score, well my friends, that's another story in itself.

Some of the best talented actors of all time are in this film. Brando, Pacino, Duvall, Caan, Cazale, Keaton, Puzo, Coppola. It's a tremendous collaboration.

If you have paid any attention to my posts regarding Superman Returns over the months, you would know that I love the movie for many other reasons. That Brandon played the main character was only the icing on the cake. The Godfather is good/great or even the best movie EVER made for you and others, but that doesn't mean that I HAVE to feel or think the same way. Really, deal with it.
