I think ive probably wondered this for a while on and off. I wonder what the world reaction would be if superman was real. This is assuming wed never heard of the him and he wasnt a fictional superhero that we know and love and he had never been invented. Would there be a worldwide panic because a guy that flies has suddenly turned up and would people wonder if its an invasion? Would everyone be in awe of him and have the similar reaction as everyone did in STM when he was first discovered? Or would people see him and think OMG how stupid is this, there is a guy that flies but hes wearing red underpants?

That depends if I was Superman. I would change the world to meet my own selfish needs! If I wasn’t Superman, and he was just an average guy who flew, then I guess people wouldn’t really care. They would take him for granted. But I am not your average guy. Since my morals are strong, if I was Superman, the world would know it. I would be the Superman IV version, only right down to the very beginning. Firstly, I would rid the world of ALL the Nuclear weapons. Get rid of all the guns and other weapons that kill. No one would have tattoos or piercings either - or have any of the fashons that exist today - ie ripped jeans! This is where the selfish part comes in, as a lot of people have told me people should be aloud to have a ‘choice’ whether or not they want to choose to be good or evil. I wouldn’t let the evil choice exist because I would also get rid of all the following items…. Alcohol, Cigarettes, Any variety of Drugs you can think of, Bad music – there wouldn’t be any of the music that exists out there today, to ensure that I would need to get rid of technology – ie Computers. I think I’ve now covered the basics. The people would know that Superman existed. And since the temptation is not there anymore, I would make this a peaceful planet. Since Superman lives forever, once the evil has died out, and new blood is born, I would reintroduce computers back into the world, but I would ensure that no bad music is invented, I wouldn’t allow the governments to allow it. Obviously all the other items on my list would never surface again either. I actually never quite understood why Superman doesn’t take the law into his own hands, but rather hands down the criminals to the police. Think about it this way, in this modern world, can the police be trusted? They are corrupt as well – it’s all politics – and there wouldn’t be any of that if I was Superman. So to answer your question – it depends what kind of Superman the world gets – there wouldn’t be any swearing if I was – that would be considered a crime. So they wouldn’t be thinking 'why is guy wearing underwear on the outside?' Since he came to earth when he was a baby, he was raised on earth, it depends who the parents are – it’s fortunate that his parents weren’t from the city I guess.

It would be hard to trust someone with that power. So, it'd probably be as situation where he'd have to earn our trust. Which has been pointed out in other incarnations, like Birthright and the DCAU.

I could do it.
If I woke up one day to find out Superman was real, I'd be elated but pissed it wasn't me. Criminy, what would he look like? How would he sound? What would his costume look like? Things I've thought of, to be sure of, as I'm a massive noid.

He'd be branded the Antichrist by most Christians. If I had never heard of Superman I too would be a bit skeptical. I think most adults would. But kids, kids would be able to see who he really is. I have a feeling the kiddies would help convince the adults to fully trust him.

If I ws Superman, I would have fun melting the Eiffell Tower with heat vision, destroying the Washington Monument, ruining Mt Rushmore, destroying the Kremlin and Tokyo too.
Why?
Because no-one else is going to do it, and I'd be so pissed off from all the years of waiting.

;D Poor ATP, he just wants his damn "Villains take over the world Scene... Please?" Is that to much to ask?
There will be "Villains take over the world scene" when the people of the world, want it so badly, that WB or Fan-cutters will have no choice but to give it to them.

if he's real, there's no way he can pull off the clark kent disguise. in real life, we can still recognise someone even tho they put on glasses, changed their voice, combed their hair differently & put on a different demeanor.
if he's to have a private life, he'd have to put on a mask as superman

That a fact?
I've tested this theory a many of times. And it works. It legitimately, TRULY fucking works. It's ridiculous and I'm pretty blown away by it, and it DOES actually work. The whole "How can people not recognize him with the glasses and the hair and the physical difference?" thing is null and void when people aren't LOOKING for that person they'd normally recognize. They don't initially see that person and sometimes don't see the real person at all.
A while back, I had my hair just kinda falling down over my forehead and wore glasses and went out with my buddies and came upon a friend of mine, for YEARS we've been friends, and I haven't seen him in a few weeks, that's it, and he didn't recognize me at all. Even when I talked to him. It wasn't until I said, "You know who I am, right?" like maybe three minutes in. I took off my glasses and brushed my hair back, and he said, "OH MY GOD, you've gotta be kidding me."
Same thing happened with his wife. And a few others that night.
So yeah. It can happen, for damn sure.

I agree with Kevin.
Fact is, I myself look totally different with glasses and my appearance also changes when I get my hair cut.
However, did anyone else think that in the Reeve Superman movies that Clark looked a little more pudgy in the face as Clark? I thought that maybe the extra fat on his face was because he was wearing a latex mask like Mrs. Doubtfire.

Hopefully putting on a latex mask as Clark won't be part of Abrams' reboot. ;p

Back to the original post-
Actually, if anyone here can get ahold of Neil Gaiman/Alan Moore's "Miracleman" Graphic Novels 2 and 3 (Hard to get ahold of cheap, because of Todd McFarlane's unwarranted legal attacks on the property)--- those are pretty good illustrations on how a world would react to a Superman who existed in this world (though the difference being that the Superman in that version allowed himself to take over control of the world, since he knew he could do a better job at running it.)
Just like in the book (highly reccomended btw)- I think these things would happen if Superman did exist:
* Some would treat him as a diety, and build churches devoted to him. * Women would want to (literally) want to have his baby, and if he allowed (in the book, the main character becomes the government)--- he could have a sperm bank with his dna, to create other superpowered (maybe) children. * Political forces would either all try to use him (like Watchmen used Dr.Manhattan), or he could declare martial law and impose his own sense of government. * Many sides would blame him as much as praise him for many things in the world (he's not doing enough for cause 'x', and/or by helping do this or that, some other fallout may have happened). Criticism is one thing that would always exist, regardless... (sadly).
If Superman were real, and he decided not to be involved in politics, then I think the scenario that Paul Dini/Alex Ross created in the oversize book put out years ago (Was it "Peace On Earth"? I don't recall.)---- would be the reality. That seemed to tackle why Superman doesn't get involved in world hunger/etc. in fiction, directly.
Personally? The world would definitely be a better place with him, regardless, if he were real.
