Of these guys, who is your favorite Superman?
Alright, had to leave Reeve off, because really...I want this to be kind of an interesting poll, and we can't have him running away with the victory. I ALMOST didn't put Welling on, because damn it, if he won't put on the "S", he ain't Superman. However, he's put in more hours as Clark than just about anyone else on the list, so I would be remiss to leave him off.
And when you vote, post a REASON you picked him!

By the way, I voted for Reeves. The dude just has it. Sure, the suit was padded, and towards the end he was looking a little haggard, and the other four dudes on the list EASILY are more physically correct for the part, but in those early seasons, the guy IS Superman.
His Clark is charismatic and funny, and often more interesting than Superman. His Superman is tough and charming, and he really exudes the "nothing can hurt me, so I can be pretty chill" vibe that Superman needs.
Alyn kinda bums me out, and he pisses me off as much or more than Dean Cain! To be fair, neither of those guys had the better scripts that Reeve had.
And, as I said, while I'd LIKE to see Welling in the suit...until he puts it on, he ain't Superman. So screw him. You wanna vote for him? Fine. But I wanna hear why.

Routh for me. Reeves was a great Superman, too. But I think Routh embodied Superman for a new generation.

I almost voted for Routh. Even though I've become increasingly pro-reboot in recent months, it is ONLY with the caveat that they MUST KEEP ROUTH.

If not Routh they should have Welling give it a shot, if he wants to of course.

By the way, that last selection is a misnomer. ;D

I really considered leaving Welling off the list, but I figured it's not fair not to include him.

I've always felt Welling has the potential be a great Supes.

Apart from Alyn (how many have seen his stuff?) Reeves is the only real man in that list . His screen presence was far greater than Routh's too, no small feat for a cheap 1950s TV show.

I think I didn't vote for Routh only because the sample size is small compared to the other guys, all of whom have a MINIMUM of 6 hours of screen time in the role.

Excellent point. How you can really judge him by one film? And let's face it, he was never given the opportunity to show depth or a range of emotions was he? Look how many shades of character Reeve got to play in the first 3 movies.

I'm kind of annoyed at myself for not including Gerard Christopher and John Haymes Newton in this. If Welling's on the list, those guys MORE than deserve to be on here. At least they wore the suit....

Gotta go with Gerard Christopher
Gerard Christopher + George Reeves = Christopher Reeve!

Dean Cain!
He is the only Superman that can mess with my mind in the sense that I prefer him over Christopher Reeve!
No joke – I LOVE the show as much as the films!
The reason I don’t talk about it is that it gets negative reviews like Superman IV.
So why bother?
Dean Cain’s Clark Kent is someone who can be your best friend.
Having Clark as the main character is more interesting than The Man Of Steel.
So, his Character is more problematic than the others.
All of the supporting actors are spot on except Jimmy Olsen – In Season One Michael Landes should not have been replaced by Justin Whalin. And I miss Tracy Scoggins as Catherine Grant in the other seasons.
Other than that, maybe Teri Hatcher should not have cut her hair by the 3rd season – though she is still my favorite Lois – the one I’d marry.
And there you have it – had it not been Christopher Reeve – Dean Cain is the one.
You know how sometimes you don’t know which Superman movie you prefer?
Whether its ‘Part One’ (?) or Part Two’ (?)
That’s how I feel about Dean Cain.
Christopher Reeve is Part One.
Dean Cain is Part Two.
Nothing wrong with the ‘S’ or the suit – if anyone has problems – it is Brandon Routh! (trying to imitate Reeve) ;D

Glad to see someone step up for Cain. The guy gets entirely too much flack. The first season of Lois And Clark is EXCELLENT superhero television, and the chemistry between Cain and Hatcher is very, very strong.
I prefer his Clark to his Superman, and I'm not a fan of his suit (but that's not his fault). Had the writing on L&C held up in later seasons, I think people would see Cain in a more favorable light.

Michael Landes was the best Jimmy Olsen I've ever seen. Same goes for Lane Smith as Perry White. And Yes Hatcher was really good in the first season, before it all went to heck.
Eddie Jones was f'cuking abysmal in that show. Keep your eye on him if you ever watch an ep; the stupid fat f'uck can't act to save his life. K Callan was good as a "modern" Ma Kent.

I really liked Dean Cain's Clark, but I wasn't fond of his Superman. Always with his arms crossed, sigh.
But as Clark, he was alive and charismatic. The show is all about Lois and Clark. "Superman" was but a plot device to solve the episode's problem, and usually went really fast.
Season 1 of L&C was excellent. Too bad it went to heck as soon as Lex took the plunge.

When Tim Minear (of "Angel" fame) took over as story editor in Season 4, there were a lot of really clever bits that I enjoyed.... but, yeah, Season 2 should have been the season that things should have really taken off, rather than go in directions that helped solidify a lot of mediocrity present in that show's run. (Much like....a certain WB Superboy show that's around now...*sigh*)

I vote for Cain. I'd like to vote for Routh, but not on one movie.
Cain was an amazing Clark Kent. That's something most folks just can't seem to deny. His Kent was great. It was perfect, fit the Kent in the comics at the time quite accurately.
His Superman was lame, sure, but I didn't really mind it all too much when watching it. It was mostly about Clark, though. heck, I even tried to emulate Cain a bit in high school, even was told I looked like him in the late 90's, so I bilked that for all it was worth. That all stopped, luckily, though.
But yeah, Cain. For sure. Him and Hatcher were great, and for a good while, he was the official Superman, no other one was around, and I was plenty okay with it.
And I can't stand the people who make it seem like he's a midget. I'm three inches shorter than he is, maybe four. Am I an infant? And the shape he was in. C'mon, people! He was in GREAT shape. Sure, he wasn't ripped and chiseled, but for the time and the style that was in, he was exactly how he should've been. Ask any woman who watched the show or even heard of it. Cain was the shit. And it wasn't just his face. Chicks LOVED his body. So to those who say he wasn't in good shape or too short, meh...jealousy, perhaps. I'd love to have his height or build, at least when he was on Season One.

If I hear this point one more time about that show!! ;D cain was a midget compared to how big Supes should be! What is he - 5'10? He looked shorter than that! Trust me - I'm not jealous of his height or build. My arms 2 months ago were probably bigger than his ever were. Infact the missus was watching an ep after Christmas and noted my arms were "bigger than Superman's"; now that was a nice moment

Annnnnnnnd there it is. Like clockwork! Man, you really just don't care for the idea that some people liked Cain, physically and as Superman, do ya? It's adorable! Every time Cain's mentioned in one of these things, your tried and true "He's a midget I'm bigger than him my girl says so!" thing comes up. He certainly wasn't HUGE but I'd love to have them pecs of his from season one.
And best of all, he's ONE inch shorter than Kirk Alyn and the SAME HEIGHT as George Reeves! Guess they're all midgety too? By your standards?
Of course, this is going by the IMDB's height listing. Maybe Cain's is a lie, but I dunno, he always seemed six footish to me. Superman height.

Routh is the only who even comes close for me. And just on the strength of one movie. Big surprise I know. ;D
I do however really like Caine's Clark. It was perfect for its time.
