Hey guys, I'm getting married June 20. Trying to work in a variation or edit of music from STM for when we are introduced as husband and wife for the first time.
I was thinking maybe the opening horns and dum dums from the main title march... or maybe the triumphant march from the helicopter rescue. I'm sure there are other ideas.
Thoughts?

For my wedding we had the love theme from the end titles as we left the church. Sounded amazing on the organ and had the desired effect upon the crowd....

There's a piano version of Can You Read My Mind, it's quite beautiful. I used it when I got married. My marriage ended in divorce, so maybe it's not a good idea.

William's Love theme or Ottman's Personal theme, are the only ones that would sound appropriate for the occasion.
And thats coming from a Wedding DJ ;D

Chris, great post.
My wife and I had a string quartet at our wedding. They played 'can you read my mind' when were signing the registry after the vows etc - it was beautiful on strings, obviously with no vocals.

Whatever anyone does, probably not a good idea to have the Margot Kidder version with vocals for "Can you read my mind" for a wedding. (Nor the disco version). Having it in STM is one thing, but....

I'm not planning on using Superman music for the church ceremony... just maybe to formally kickoff the reception if it sounds like it will be appropriate.
You know the part where the wedding party is introduced *at the reception* one at a time... and then finally the doors open and the husband and wife enter to a rousing applause? That's the part where I was thinking of using an appropriate STM fanfare. The love theme, while emotionally stirring is not the best choice in that context. Music that starts out with a "buildup" as the wedding party is introduced, and then abruptly enters into a triumphant march as the bride and groom enter... that would be more appropriate. With that said, I think we have 3 options:
A) The dreamy music that transitions into the opening horns that marks the end of the prelude, segues into the drumroll... and leads into the opening Superman fanfare. Basically the movie version.
B) The last minute of "Fortress of Solitude" which ends with Superman's flight out of the fortress. I like how this one has a clearly defined ending, but there isn't a buildup leading into it.
C) The march from the helicopter rescue. Perhaps the most appropriate given that people will be clapping as we enter. Some editing challenges because, again, there isn't a clear buildup to the march...
Thoughts? Editing ideas?
And, yes, she has heard option A and seems pretty cool with it. But I want her to listen to B and C as well.

I don't think you ought to use the theme. It's too recognizable. I'd consider it kind of cheezy myself. Hey, only SUPERMAN can enter using that theme IMO. Do you plan on dressing up as Superman for the wedding? ;D Use the Smallville and Love Theme for music. Actually, Use the love theme for the first dance as man and wife. Now that'd be cool. Also...... CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Hope things work out great for you.

I mentioned the idea to the DJ and he didn't seem the least bit fazed by it... I would bet that most brides and grooms have some sentimental reason for picking the musical selections. If you feel "Superman" is cheesy for an intro, I think there are some insecurities behind that. You guys have been to receptions where the wedding party is introduced formally, right? It sounds like a few of you are confusing this with the church ceremony.
Besides, you'd be surprised how many people need to hear the exact part where Su-per-man! is musically "vocalized" to recognize it. One time I played a variation of the theme and my dad thought it was graduation music.
For the selection I'm going with... the prelude leading into the main title march... most of that will be agnostic to the average person. The buildup is what makes that piece work so well for an introduction. Even John Williams himself said the prelude was rare in that a movie was opening with a "formal introduction".
It's not about whether we are a "super" enough couple to use this music, but about having fun with it.
