i just found this alternate depowering scene and i love it, i always preefered the dialogue between chris reeve and suzannah york but it also keeps brando in the scence which makes it really powerful. I also prefered the delivery of the line "i love her" in lesters version and this has been nicely dubbed over the delivery in donners version. it just shows that a great superman 2 cut can be made out of both versions if done correctly www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWD3vfPuOA0&feature=PlayList&p=A884DFE2A9CC6978&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=16

I disagree. Tom's right. The mother sent DICK. She doesn't belong there. Donner's whole dynamic between father and son shouldn't be sullied by an appearance from a character that far into the relationship in a movie. Plus, Jor-El already asks him to reconsider, followed by that defiant kid telling off his dad. Which we see him suffer the consequences after that indignation in successive scenes, with Zod taking over and Jor-El's final speech and sacrifice.

While I think it's great work, and an interesting take... I agree with Matt's comment:
STM was about father figures and sons- From Jor-el, to Pa Kent, to Perry White (in a way), to an evil father figure in Zod. While it can be argued about whether the Jor-el/Kal-el or the Lara/Kal-el depowering scene was better done--- conceptually, it feels wrong to me, if SII is going to be considered the second part of STM.

Well, SII has always felt lovey dovey, why try to change what's permanently there? ;D

I just wish they didn't have to make Lois come off as overall unlikeable and bitchy as she does in Lester's version. ;p ((Kidder is right; in Donner's scenes, she always comes off much better))
I remember someone in the audience screaming "Was it worth it, buddy?!" when Clark is shown in bed with Lois, to howls of laughter. I guess I wasn't the only one who thought any love story was kind of dampened by the fact that Lois came off as not quite worth the sacrifice. (the original script actually plays it even better in some ways in how Supes comes to make his choice, imo).

Hah! In that pic Clark was like "what the f*ck did I just do?"
When he stepped out of the chamber all de-powered Lois was like "Uhhh... all I wanted was a cheeseburger, you didn't have to give up your powers dumbass!"
Clark is like "Okay well at least let me sleep with you first seeing as how I already just gave up my powers!"
Lois is like "Whatever."
In this pic Clark realizes that the depowering made him impotent!
