I don’t know if anyone noticed this at the end of SIII but Gus open is shirt like if he was Clark Kent changing to Superman…
That scene doesn’t make sense because nobody knows that Superman has a secret identity. Even if it’s a kind of joke, for me it’s a mistake.

The entire movie is a joke. It has it's moments, but the rest of the movie is a Richard Pryor comedy. And not one of his better comedies.

I don't mind that, but...
if you have a look at the featured deleted scenes on the'Superman Returns' DVD - at the Daily Planet on TV - somebody else also does the same thing!
I prefer Richard Pryor 100%.

Yeah... Superman is sweeping Gus off his feet. Seems like a little romance is going on...

OK Smart A$$... WHEN?
...or in what scene do we hear Gus (hum?) the 3 notes of the Superman theme?
He does however sing the first 3 notes of the Lois &Clark theme when he does his improvisation on Ross Webster's ski resort.
When he mentions that Superman Lands, he sings Den, dEN de Deeee!!!!!!!!!
I always thought to myself that composer Jay Gruska might have had a head start from Pryor on that!!! Funny.
But he doesn't sing Superman on the Topic which this thread is about.

Yeah.... I don't really see how anyone could incorrectly remember any scene since part of our religion here (Reevish) is to watch all 4 Reeve films every day.
Yes, this is the second time jimbo has incorrectly implied that Gus hums the Superman theme in the same coal mine scene near the end when Gus opens his shirt.
In reality, Gus Gorman hums the Superman theme in a much earlier scene on Ross Webster's ski-resort rooftop.
However, we must remember that before jimbo recieves his stoning, as required by the Good Book (the Superman IV 134 test screening review) we must remember that he never explicitly stated that Gus engaged in both action in the same scene. Rather, he only implied that they occured in the same scene due to vague writing which is consistent within the parameters of a message board pertaining to such a matter as this.
As such, my ruling is that jimbo recieve a full pardon for this percieved transgression against of the Reevish religion!

Uh yeah, whatever.
Gus still rips his shirt open like Superman while humming/singing/miming (what's the proper verb here) a fanfare, thus breaking the fourth wall.

Yeah it's like the band in Rocky V doing the Rocky theme ! But I like to think that, within the fictional world of Superman, the theme does in fact exist. Perhaps it is used whenever Superman is potrayed in the media or maybe there was a movie made about Superman where this theme was used!

Reminds me of when the Bond theme was played by the tennis player-turned-actor dude in Octopussy. ;D So is this now becoming a list of moments when characters perform movie themes in the movie? The Harry Potter series did that in the first film (Hagrid plays "Hedwig's Theme" on a flute).

Windom Earle does the exact same thing in Twin Peaks, flute and all.

They also sing the theme in "Romeo and Juliet". And also in SR; remember that boy who shouts "Superman" in the stadium? It really sounds like he is singing it. ;D
