I'm aghast to find that some people actually like SR more than SII. Which is like telling me that you like Godfather III over Godfather II or Godfather I. Sure, Godfather III is underrated and I like it, but COME ON. It ain't better to I or II.
So I'm curious what the numbers will show.

I concur, SR's fantastic and all, but I love S2 more.

Sorry, but I prefer Returns. Though, in all fairness. I've never seen any of the television cuts of Superman II.
Personally, I find it difficult to get past the fact that II is the work of two very different directors. Maybe if I'd remained ignorant of who shot what, I'd enjoy the film more.

II is classic, SR is definitely not.

The only reason I say S2, is because it's infuriating. I dislike the theatrical cut, and I certainly don't love the Donner cut. Maybe if I made my own cut, I'd feel differently.
It's just one huge missed opportunity, regardless of the director.
Now, sure, an argument can be made that the same can be said of SR. But SR, at the very least, has a consistent tone throughout.
They're both equally flawed, I guess. Just, lately, if I'm gonna watch one, I reach for SR.

Definite Superman II. Lester version. What's better than Superman II. A Superman 1 and 2 double bill at the Odeon!
Superman Returns is still aces though.

I'm sorry, but I never understand people who say they don't like Superman II less now because they found out about its turbulent production.
It's still the same kickass movie saw BEFORE we found out!
Sure, it would've been cool to have Brando and all, but it's still entertaining, action-packed and a worthy sequel to STM.
Like I said before, SR has a case of the Superman IV's---whereby it paid way too much homage to the first film.
SII is more of its own adventure than SR because it doesn't copy the first film and it has a kickass main villain(s) for Superman to compete with Lex on the ride. *THIS* is what Superman Returns SHOULD have had.
You know how I've always said that Superman III was a bad idea executed well, while Superman IV was a good idea executed badly?
Here's another one for you:
Considering their productions, I think it's a miracle that Superman II ended up being so good, but a mystery that Superman Returns wasn't better.
I mean, millions and millions of dollars...and no supervillains or one long memorable action scene aside from the New Krypton lifting and the airplane rescue? Millions and millions...for a drama? Set in real time?
I don't care what SII could have been, it was still awesome. But I do care about Superman IV and SR could've been because they had the potential to be much more. Because no matter what SII could or couldn't have been with Donner on board, the movie is still a winner and stands on its own.

SR for me!!!
However:
SII > SII: RDC
I do think SII could be much better though, it just has this anti-climax feeling of what could've been every time I watch it.

What's hilarious about those voting SR is that they complain that SII could've been better as if SR couldn't have been better itself.

I voted SII cause it was my favorite superman movie when I was a kid and the story is still amazing… I don’t care about the fact it’s the vision of two directors (even if I prefer the Donner vision)… for me the story is more important then the visual effects.
And you will think I’m crazy but I prefer watching SIII then SR. For me SR is a long boring movie.

My opinion is, SII/RDC was disappointing in comparison with STM and that if Donner had been not booted it would've been so much better. While also Lester's direction wasn't bad just some of the choices were silly in my opinion. SR to me was more satisfying and overall I felt there wasn't a whole lot wrong with it which I did feel towards SII/RDC.

I'll have to say Superman II. But that may be because I grew up with it. If I saw both movies fresh right now, I might go with Superman Returns.

The thing is, as Superman fans, if we do a STM, SII, SR marathon right now, I'd find it hard to believe people would prefer SR to SII. Why? Because it's too damn similar to the first film, so it lacks the freshness of the original. SII is just so much more original. There's more action, more romance and better acting in SII than in SR. I don't think there's a single performance in SR that is better than any performance in SII. I know I probably seem hardheaded on this issue and don't get me wrong, I like SR. But better than SII? I dunno, guys. It's like telling me Godfather III is better than the first two.

I really like all 3 Superman movies: STM, SII & SR (I don't count SIII & SIV; too much wrong in them, imo), but none of them is perfect or 'flawless', but what movie is? So, yes, I definitely have my gripes with ALL 3 of them. So, I go with the cringe factor, and hands down, SII makes ME cringe the most.

Don't make a poll and balk at the results and act like people are out of their minds.
You can't ask a question, which "whatever" you like better, fully knowing every time someone says the answer YOU don't want to hear, you're going to rip on their opinion. That's just rude, man. Deal with it. Some people like Superman Returns more than Superman II. Maybe even STM.
And for the record, I voted for SUPERMAN RETURNS.
