I was at the gym yesterday and got thinking. I workout by lifting heavy weights repeatedly. This process damages my muscle tissue and when it's repairing it repairs it slightly stonger and firmer (getting bigger muscles).
To Superman everything is basically pretty light to him. There is very little resistance in order for his muscles to grow so he shouldn't be as muscluar as he is and instead be a big blog! What do you guys think? Is it just a healthy diet?? ;D

It's because he only eats when he's hungry.

Superman doesn't really need to eat. He gets all his energy from the sun.
Also, there are other ways to burn off calories.. and Supes is off planet a lot. ;D

this is actually an interesting question for superman apologists to consider -
if we were on the moon for example , we would have -relatively-tremendous strentgh and leaping ability , but eventually our muscles would atrophy and we would fatigue to the point where we would be used to it and then if we returned to earth we would be frail and weak.
so - how come superman's body doesn't " equalise" to the point where he is closer to human ? well, actually it isnt about his muscle-mass , or the gravity at all . in SII zod deduces that kryptonians have greater " molecular denisty " ( than say - the humans they just whipped onthe moon ) and in the right solar environment they have greater strength . as long as the yellow sun is pumping energy into thier bodies , thier physical muscle need not expand - they would simply be stronger because thier bodies are more evolved and dense.
in the comics the analogy was made to insects, and ant can lift several times its own wieght and a grasshopper can leap a staggering distance for its body size . this was used to explain strength/leaping and when it came to actually flying the excuse is a form of telekenisis ( if his body is absorbing so much energy i would affect his brain as well as his muscle ) .
interstingly , some writers have pointed out that superman's body would necessarily have to be extremely HEAVY , and that he would have to concentrate in order not to damage things built for humans .

One thing I thought about in the Superman movies. According to Jor-El, he has a "dense molecular structure" when compared to humans, which aids in him being bullet-proof among other things. Shouldn't being that dense make him kinda heavy? Also, his molecular structure is dense....and that allows him to fly? ;D

Nice one, S1980. ;D
I can tell that screenshot is from the theatrical cut since it's not bogged down in blue tint. ;D

Why isn't Superman fat? Have you even SEEN Superman IV? Supes got plenty obese in that.

I don't know if he should be a blob, but I've never liked the extreme appearance that some artists give him in the comics.
Ed McGuinness takes the physiques to an extreme. I prefer the realism and a match to what it should look like when a real man with appropriate size puts on a costume, like Reeve and Routh.

Frank Quitely draws a pretty pouchy Clark Kent.

I think the value of the SPX for the Superman films were directly proportionate to Reeve's physique.
Great in STM (more or less muscular)
Down a notch in SII (lost a bit of definition there)
Back up to par and then some in SIII (yeah... Reeve looking his best)
A complete joke in SIV (WTF Reeve... you have a spare tire hanging over that yellow belt!)
