He was living in a Houston suburb for awhile. God knows what happened. Wow, I lived in the same town as Nuclear Man. There's a fun fact. I wonder if he's still around... Pillow wearing the costume to the premiere is beyond ridiculous. I mean, isn't the costume property of the studio? Did he just take it home when production was over? Yep, he lived up in Spring, Texas for a while.

;D He was living in a Houston suburb for awhile. God knows what happened. There is this guy at SHH boards who says Mark lives in London and works at this bar that he sometimes visits. Poor guy. ;D But seriously, he wore that costume to that place?? Wow!

There is this guy at SHH boards who says Mark lives in London and works at this bar that he sometimes visits. Poor guy. You know, I remember reading (on the internet) that Mark Pillow OWNED a bar or pub somewhere. Which would of course be preferable to just working at one. Someone needs to do a "Where Are They Now" special on Supeman IV and get to the bottom of this.

I heard that too, but apparently it was just a rumour and it wasn't true because someone actually checked out the bar that people were saying he worked at.

Did somebody say rare Superman IV image...? Best I've got... ..And that's from an old print. There has to be better out there somewhere. Thank you SO much Martin!!!!! Am I dreaming or was there a color version of this somewhere? God, just LOOK at it. The ludicrousness of it thrills me. Look how shes trying not to look at him. Shes asking her friend "Is he still looking at me?"Hes dressed that way, but still standing proper. BWAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA!

It was actually me who checked it out. It's a bar in Liverpool called Mchales Irish American bar on Lime street. I actually walked past it agan last week when I was in Liverpool. But anyway on the way back to where I was staying I called in, sat down with my mate, got a pint of the black (my mates and I call Guinness "The Black Stuff") and when the guy came round I asked him who the owner was. He gave some name that wasn't Mark Pillow, I asked him was a Mark Pillow working here or a manager here and he said he's been working there this years and never heard of him but they have got a few things in the post asking about some Mark Pillow guy and asked me who it was. I told him that that it was a retired movie actor that no one can find anywhere and it's believed he owned that place. Was a nice pint of Guinness!!!

It's quite sad really, I mean the guy probably just went into the movie thinking it would be wonderful to be in a superman movie and probably honoured to work with Mr Reeve. Yet unbeknown to him, the movie had the budget of about $30 and a pretty poor production team. He probably thought it would be a great start for his career yet it turned out to be the one that finished it. Sorry but you have to feel sorry for him. I wonder if he ever visits these sites? you know to read up on things. Or perhaps he has erased all memory of Superman IV and everything related. ;D

I haven't deal with a LOT of actors over time, but I hear enough stories from indie/low budget directors in the area I chat with now and then to hear some pretty awful ones about low-budget prima dona actors to make me applaud the actors who support the writers/directors of films and think less of those who screw up productions in service of their ego.... whether its low-budget or big-budget films.
So, if he believed in and supported the film, then I wouldn't see any reason to condemn the guy-- but....
The costume bit is funny, though I could either see the motivation to wear it at a Royal Premiere either:
#1: Mark Pillow is a guy with a HUGE sense of humor and did it for fun, knowing it would get a weird response... (a la the late Andy Kaufman)
#2: He loved the whole process and was naive about it. (in which case, it was probably extremely embarrassing at the end)
If the movie was well done with a spectacular budget, I imagine it being a cool treat for a kid who may see him walk the red carpet with the other stars-- and if it got a standing ovation, it's still a little silly, but he probably would feel less silly about wearing the costume.
But since the movie was pretty awful, I imagine it being a painful experience to watch it on the bigscreen in costume AND have that costume on, with a live audience. It'd almost be like wearing a billboard saying "The movie sucks, and I'm a part of it!" to anyone around him.
I'm sure the experience is still pretty painful for him- If I were him, I doubt I would check out any Superman movie websites and probably sell the Nuclear Man costume asap on ebay.... (sad). So, yeah, I do feel sorry for him. With Reeve, he had such a packed resume of good works (even before his humanitarian work), that he could hold his head up high beyond the bad films.
Just as Superman IV was Pillow's debut in a 'bomb', decades ago, Jessica Lange was introduced in Dino DeLaurentis' 'bomb' "King Kong" ---- and got horrible reviews, but by staying in the acting field, taking acting classes- she eventually got an Oscar and tons of respect--- so that I'd sense that looking back at "king Kong" wouldn't be that painful, as "Superman IV" would be to Pillow, if he didn't generate other work to balance his artistic rep.
As it is, I think there's only "Superman IV" and that photo as his creative legacy. Too bad. And a little sad. ;p

Well said CAM.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if he suffered some kind of mental breakdown from that movie, I know I would be on the verge of heading that way... I just hope he is in good health and is enjoying life.

I say good on him. The guy obviously loved what he was doing. heck, if I was a villian in a Superman movie you wouldn't get the costume off me with a crowbar and a blowtorch.

I've been reading this thread the last couple days and I feel bad for Mark.
The Christopher Reeve Superman series was going to be one of the best things ever. The crap with SII brought it down a little and the camp and silliness of SIII brought it down a little more.
Superman IV had good intentions of redeeming the franchise but Cannon got the rights to it and we all know where that went.
Looking at the smile on Marks face makes me think he was a all around good guy, and one that would be good to hang around with as well, just like Chris. It's a shame that that cannon screwed this movie over and dubbed Marks voice making him seem sillier.
He was probably so proud that he was going to be the super-villain in a Superman movie... I'm starting to ramble lol.
Anywho, yeah the picture is a good laugh but I feel bad for him that his debut was that and he went into hiding, which is why no one can find him.
To bad we could find him and invite him onto the board to talk with us and share some of the memories he had with working with Chris and everyone. Since everything that he'd say about working on this movie would be totally new.
He never did any interviews or anything for SIV did he?

OH MAN! We were looking for these a few months ago!
PRICELESS!
In Pillow's defense, it wasn't his decision to wear the suit. Damn Cannon.
