I still have all of them except for part IV. They are pro-copies with cases intact, not taped off of TV. I even have one from Holland that is widscreen that good old Albert D sent me back in the day!

i have the original pre-cert (UK) "big-box" vhs of STM - it's beautiful (not 100% but i believe that STM was the first WB VHS release in the UK) I have the original VHS rental versions of the others too, as well as other VHS. I also have a SE STM on VHS signed by Jerry Seinfeld (i think). I never throw anything out!

Believe it or not, I still have the original copy of STM my dad taped off of HBO in like, 1980. The one that I practically wore out.
When Clark is running (after jumping in front of the train) and he's trailing off into the distance, there's a flash of static and the sound speeds up for a second, as my dad realized he was recording it at too high a speed to get the whole thing and switched it to a slower speed.
And the helicopter rescue is decidedly more worn than the rest of the movie, as I watched it over and over and over and over and over....

Not do I have the "bought" versions still on VHS and the Warner Bros snap case of SII, most importantly, I still have my ABC 1984 Superman II extended cut complete with commercials. I also have a STM ABC copy (just the theatrical version) complete with commercials.
I love it.

Had Parts 1 and 2 on a videotape, my mom taped them for me when I was little. I'm happy to say that I wore the tape out watching them so many times, not happy to say that said tape (like many of them) have been either thrown away, or taped over with her soap opera, and then thrown away.
Funny thing is, since I grew up on the ABC cut, that was what I figured was the actual version. Imagination my shock when, upon buying part 2 on tape a few years later when I was 12, I noticed that roughly 20 minutes of the movie was missing.
Cut to about 6-7 years later, and I found this site. And my obsession with the Donner version (as well as a newfound obsession with the Reeve-era Superman movies, and now fan-editing in general) was born.

I had the same thing happen to me.
I watched that 1984 copy, (I assume it was '84 because it featured a news brief reporting that Walter Mondale won the Iowa Caucus and he eventually ran against Ronald Reagan in the '84 presidential election), countless times.
One day, I tuned to HBO later in the decade because they were showing SII and I was shocked at this "edited" version.

Back at my mom's house, I have STM recorded off Showtime, Superman II and III recorded off ABC (those lovely extended cuts), and then Superman IV off Showtime too. I sure watched those a fair bit, even Superman IV (before I knew any better).

Superman IV on VHS. First and only Superman film I owned growing up. It was always a treat to rent SII (I rented that same tape countless times from the store but never bought it for some reason) and I didn't actually own the SII tape until 1999. I bought the STM tape prolly that same year.... right after I found this site and thus became indoctrinated and realized that I was 'wrong' about thinking that SII was awesome and that STM was a bit boring. Funny thing... VHS kinda suits the Superman films well... a little grain to hide those wires goes a long way. It felt a bit sterile watching them on a dvd and in wide screen at first! ;D

I even have one from Holland that is widscreen that good old Albert D sent me back in the day! Those were very good times, my friend! BTW The video I have sent you wasn't made in Holland. I've bought it in Amsterdam, but it was imported from England. It's a British videocassette. About 2 years ago I gave a lot of double Superman video's to a former colleague at my work. I really had too many Superman movies, but I gave her only the movies I had 2 or 3 times. I had no room for so many exactly the same movies. I still have contact with this ex-colleague and she's the only Dutch person on my Facebook friendslist. Of course I still have at least 5 different versions of STM and other Superman movies. I still have your Superman The Movie KCOP video, Maverick! Another one of my favourites is the Canadian extended ABC version of Superman II, including all of the commercials and news and sports breaks! I have bought it from a very nice lady on Ebay and the picture/sound quality is excellent. She also said she worked at the Toronto Star newspaper and she said some newsroom scenes in STM were filmed at her work. Unfortunately this woman and I are not friends anymore and I have lost all contact with her. But I still treasure her Superman II video. She also made a CBS copy of STM (including commercials!) for me! I even talked to her on the telephone for a few minutes! She was so very surprised and excited to hear my voice! Talking about a "long distance call"!.. We were very good friends and I have tried to contact her again, but I guess she doesn't like me anymore.. I don't know.. Of course I remember her name very well. I still have so many Superman video's.. Indo also sent me some great stuff many years ago! .. Good times...

I got the 1993 STM widescreen still, S2 I bought back around 1995, and ex rental SIV I picked up in 1994.
From taped off the TV, I have the 1991 broadcast of extended SIII.
I still have all the extended cuts I've traded with of you folks over the last decade. I was particurly pleased with Guru's DVD --> VHS copies he did for me before I got a DVD player and Indo and Chance's STM and S2.
Its been quite a while since I've seen a Reeve Supes all the way through now. I watched Jimbo's IV cut a few months back and STM on the big screen twice last year but not a normal viewing at home; got to be a couple of years now.

I also have an original master videotape of S2 extended and it has Dutch subtitles. Maybe this means nothing special to you guys, but Superman II extended was aired in Holland only once and I think I am the only person in the entire country who has an original master tape! Extremely rare!!! Many years ago I put an advertisement in a Dutch tv guide, because I knew about the Dutch extended version of Superman II. I vaguely remember watching parts of the movie on my mom's brand new color tv set. We didn't have a vcr, so we couldn't record anything. I got only 2 reactions. One guy in Groningen gave me a Superman II video for free (no extended version! ) and there was also another guy. He had the tape I was looking for. He sent me a letter and asked me if I still wanted to have the cassette. He said he recorded the movie somewhere in the mid-eighties and I got very excited and happy about this. This guy didn't know what's so special about this Superman II tape. He kept asking me why I was so excited and happy and why I wanted to have his S2 video. I made up some bullshit story about "sentimental value". He wanted to send me the tape and I asked him what he wanted to have in return. "Oh, a blank cassette is okay.." At the end I sent him a STM (2001 version) dvd and he sent me his original cassette. I told him the truth about the extra 20 minutes after I received his tape. Fortunately he made a copy for himself, but I got the original. I was so excited when I received his package. I opened it and put the cassette in my vcr immediately. I applauded when I saw Superman flying past the Concorde. The tape does not have Scandinavian subtitles, but it has Dutch subtitles. A small part of the intro is missing and the end title was never aired, but it does have Superman saying "Blast off!" at the Fortress. The quality is excellent and I should have the tape converted to dvd. BTW My video was not used when the RIC was made, but the picture quality is much better than the Restored International Cut.

Wow someone that also saw the RTE screenings and actually owns it. That brings back so many memories. The 1986 screening was a one day screening with both films wasn't it? We couldn't tape of RTE in those days, something to do with it being a different frequency for our video at the time. I can remember the last time they showed the extended films was around 1988/89.

It was January and they showed 1, 2 and 3 on consecutive weeks with the making ofs beforehand, it was also the last time they screened the extended versions of Superman 1 and 2.
I saw Superman 1 on RTE back on 2nd Jan '83, (but our RTE reception was crap back then to be allowed to tape it) and then UTV showed it (theatrical cut) for the first time on January 6th 1983 at 7.25pm.
Strange thing that Superman III premiered on a mouldy old Thursday 5th Sept '85 (just when we were back to school and all), it seemed so NEW from the cinemas back then. Nowadays it's the norm.
Also, Superman seemed to be the film tv execs would (mostly) show just when we were going back to school from our holidays. Perhaps it was their way of making it allllllllllllllllllll right!!
Have modified my previous post with the dates. I'm pretty sure they are accurate.

I could have swore they screened it in the late 80s but I could be wrong. Reason I thought that was because we moved house in July 1987 and am sure I seen it in that house. Mind you that is well over 20 years ago now so memories are blurred. I know Dutch TV station filmnet (on astra 1a) def screened Superman II in 1989 and perhaps that's why I am confused. I have Superman III taped from Ulster TV on September 5th 1985 complete with the adverts. That's the most strangest part wathcing that bloke from the Crazy Prices ads "..That's good that's crazy prices".

To the tune of Tiger Feet. What was his name again, he looked like Keith Burnside didn't he? Always giving a car away to some awl doll.
Remember Keith Burnside and that bloke Julian who always introduced Coronation Street like he was gossiping.
(maybe we should start a UTV memories thread in the Diner though)
