^I disagree. That was for Superman not for Clark Kent. There is a big difference.
And if most people prefer Chris' take, I'd like to know Why.

Ohhhhh, I see. Yeah, that makes sense.
I say Reeve. Pulling off the diminutive nerd while being a totally different character as Superman was great. The scene at Lois' apartment where he removes his glasses, stands up, and speaks with a totally different voice is WIN.

Why? I do like Welling. He has his moments.
But, to be honest, Reeve is the apex of both Clark Kent and Superman. The man was brillant!

Christopher Reeve!
He is the only actor who can really make you believe that it is not the same person.
Well, if I need to say more then how can I word it differently?
I don't believe that the same actor plays both iconic roles?!
Well now I do… but at first - "Are you serious? It can't be! Clark Kent and Superman are one and the same!"
And then it happens, he removes his specs, and… ;D

Best Clark Kent actor hands down. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate (and somewhat enjoy) Reeve's take for what it is but it just doesn't really work for me; his Clark was just too goofy, clumsy and so over the top nerdy that makes me cringe. I prefer Brandon's take because it is the most realistic and believable for Metropolis Clark that there is so far, IMO. He was a real mild-mannered and shy guy, like he was supposed to be from the beginning. The guy that noone notices, the fly on the wall. He also --like Reeve-- rocked the voice changes, and I prefer his hair style to the others. His Clark is a nice mixture of Cain and Reeve's Clark, but not as cool as Cain or as Nerdy as Reeve's. A perfect balance. And he is the spitting image of the character as well, imo,

We didn't see enough of Routh to make a fair comparison. I can't really decide; I liked Reeve's goofiness more when I was younger but now I can appreciate Reeves' more serious CK (from the b/w eps)
For best "secret identity" then Reeve wins hands down.

Dean Cain.
I love Reeve's take on it, but I think I like Cain's more. Kinda gave me a lot of confidence in my teen years, seeing Clark like that for some reason. I liked how he was in the comics, but seeing it on TV played by a dude who chicks thought were really hot, and he was still geeky and nerdy but just smooth and charming while being so, and that was the bee's knees to me. I found that fascinating.
His performance as Clark is pretty much why I loved Lois and Clark so much. The first season, anyhow. I mean, I watched pretty much all the series, and it just got worse and worse and I feel the acting did too, as the characters were getting fucked in the face by those awful, awful storylines, but at the beginning, yeah...Cain's Kent was pretty goddamn awesome.
Reeve's was just a leeeeettle too goofy for me. ESPECIALLY in The Donner Cut. Man, his Clark is just downright awful in it.
RELEASE THE HOUNDS!

George Reeves. While Chris' transformation from Clark to Superman is the most impressive as an acting feat, George's Clark always struck me as the most interesting CHARACTER.
Reeves' played a Clark who was mild-mannered, but not a WIMP. A man who is both deferential and immensely confident. A big, moose of a guy who makes his weakling excuses to leave the scene of the action, yet who NOBODY would question whether he could handle himself in a fight.
Not to mention the fact that Reeves' Clark is the ONLY iteration of the character who looked, acted, and talked like a big city reporter.
Chris is the iconic take, and deservedly so. Brandon was admirable and fun to watch. Cain did a terrific job (thought about voting for him). But it's Reeves who elevates the CHARACTER of Clark Kent from that of a plot device into an actual human being.

Val, also Reeves injected a feeling of lonliness and isolation into his character (B/W eps); a lot of depth there from a superior actor.
You can compare about 10 mins of screen time against those who have had full TV shows or multiple feature films? Plus wasn't he basically doing a loose imitation of Reeve in the first place?
cain had the most fleshed out CK, but not surprisingly given the angle of the show (CK was the primary role not Superman), plus all the screen time, plus he had his folks to talk to for exposition.

Reeve without question for me. He pulled it off with such ease. You could always tell Metropolis Clark was a blast for Superman to play. It's always fascinating to me when I see an actor playing a character acting. That's what I like so much about the Donnerverse version of Clark and Reeve nailed it. The voice, the mannerisms, the posture. The man was just brilliant in that role and it can't be said enough. Routh was essentially playing the same character, but while good, did not seem comfortable enough in the role to let it fly the way Reeve did. Reeve gives you too many memorable moments as Clark for any other actor to touch him.

There wasn't enough Routh as Clark to justify a vote, IMO. Everyone on TV had several episodes and Reeve had four movies. Routh played Clark for all of what, five minutes in the film?
That reminds me of Ellen Burstyn being nominated for an Emmy for a role that lasted all of 14 seconds. ;D

That reminds me of Ellen Burstyn being nominated for an Emmy for a role that lasted all of 14 seconds. ;D He played the character long enough for me to realize that his take was the superior one. His body language/posture, facial expressions, tone of voice were spot on, IMO. Clark Redifined. A guy like him could actually exist in real life in a place like that. His take was similar to Reeve but it was way toned down. Thankfully. This Clark faded on the background and didn't bring much attention to himself. He was not too goofy nor too charming or confident (Superman is the charming/confident one). It was more balanced and believable. And human. And he was on screen longer than 5 minutes... Reeve's take of Metropolis Clark was.. very entertaining and well done for what it was, and I guess it worked for the 70s, but it was still a caricature of what Clark is supposed to be. It was over the top, too exagerated, and too comical for its own good, that it is painful to watch at times, IMO. There was no vermisimilitude in it. That take doesn't work anymore. People are more sophisticated now and expect something more realistic and believable from a big screen representation of the character. I think both Dean's and George's takes were good for TV, but there wasn't much of a disguise; their Clarks were basically Superman with glasses, and that wouldn't work either on a big screen film. There is only so much suspension of disbelief one can take. belloq said, "Routh was essentially playing the same character, but while good, did not seem comfortable enough in the role to let it fly the way Reeve did."He was supposed to feel uncomfortable; he comes back to his old job and bam he finds out that the woman he loves hates him and has fiance AND child. Valentine said, "But it's Reeves who elevates the CHARACTER of Clark Kent from that of a plot device into an actual human being."I disagree with that. I saw a lot of humanity in Routh's Clark and also in Dean's. I must say that I'm a little surprised with the results in the poll. I posted the same poll in other sites and the results were totally different. You guys are really the biggest Reeve fans on the net.
