Reeve without question for me. He pulled it off with such ease. You could always tell Metropolis Clark was a blast for Superman to play. It's always fascinating to me when I see an actor playing a character acting. That's what I like so much about the Donnerverse version of Clark and Reeve nailed it. The voice, the mannerisms, the posture. The man was just brilliant in that role and it can't be said enough. Routh was essentially playing the same character, but while good, did not seem comfortable enough in the role to let it fly the way Reeve did. Reeve gives you too many memorable moments as Clark for any other actor to touch him. The poll speaks for itself. There is NO close 2nd.. Reeve owned both Superman & Clark. |

This is why, on a board like this, it's best to exclude Reeve from contention. We all KNOW Reeve is going to trounce everyone, so it makes it more interesting when people are choosing among the non-Reeve actors.
I'm just bummed that when I made my "best non-Reeve Superman poll" that I forgot to include Gerard and Newton!

AWESOME! ;D ;D ;D Gerard had the part down! I just wish WB would hurry up and release the other seasons of Superboy. Honestly, Gerard had the part better than Routh did. But he had the advantage of having his character grow and Routh has only one movie under his belt. Which unfortunately, might be the only one as Superman/Clark Kent. |

I didn't buy the first season as it seemed pointless if they aren't going to release the others. A big shame; I really wanted all these. I have a few on video but quality is unwatchable now. That guy who played Luthor was excellent.
And - Smallville take note - no Lois, Perry and others from the Superman universe.
Far superior to Smallville in tone also. Comic book fun.

But they did have Luthor, Bizarro, Mr. Mxyzptlk, Metallo, and Perry White's son. Superboy was before my time, but from what I've seen no WAY was it better than Smallville. |

Superboy has zero pretentiousness, crying scenes, moodiness, etc
It was just old fashioned comic book fun/nonsense.
Smallville gets too heavy and way too angsty. Better produced, but where is the spirit of fun and adventure? I never considered it escapism.
