A 'family edited 'clean'' version of SII. Doesn't say what's been edited out.
Therefore, it's fun to speculate.
I never thought of SII as particularly risque.
So, what has been edited out of the apparently 'unfamily-friendly' theatrical version of SII?
In this version, does Superman not sleep with Lois and not give up his powers for her? (Thus, no diner scene?)
Boggles the mind.
If it's a 'clean' edit (pun intended), then storywise, if he never gave up his powers for her- AND the violence is toned down, so as not to scare delicate families:
MAYBE.... the sequence of events (roughly) goes like this:
* Effeil Tower opening/Superman saves Lois (without hugging- too much physical contact for some families than would be comfortable)
* Superman frees the criminals
* Luthor in prison
* Moon visit (without the attacks- too violent)- thus, the villains land, talk, strangely avoiding the three astronauts the whole time, then they fly off towards earth. Actually, since this would cause continuity glitches, instead, focus on the Nasa side of the whole scene, making it a conversation about blow dryers and curls instead. Forget the villains in this scene. Too family un-friendly.
* Luthor prison escape
* Honeymoon Haven #1 (Lois and Clark arrive)
* Luthor/Lara scene
* Niagara falls rescue (without actually seeing the kid fall in- too intense for some families- thus, Superman seems to snatch the kid out of the sky randomly and get cheered for some odd reason)
* Lois jumps into the water/ rescue.
* Criminals land in the backwoods, and Ursa sees a snake, but doesn't kill him (and he doesn't bite her).
* Pink Bear scene- but ends before Clark trips and his hand falls into the fire--- too intense.
* Criminals go into the smalltown, but walk around and Zod makes a speech (all other acts of violence against the people of the town and the army are deleted)
* Superman doesn't reveal himself to Lois/ Superman doesn't take her to the Fortress, either/ Superman doesn't depower himself/ No diner nor repower scene, either*
* White House visit- The White House attack is too intense, therefore, the cut begins by the villains breaking down the door and walking into the Oval Office. Actually, breaking down the door may be too intense, too. Scrap the whole White House attack entirely, and start straight with the the three talking with Lex Luthor (except for the part where Ursa crushes his hand).
* Daily Planet visit.
The Daily Planet attack is too intense. Thus, cut everything out that's violent and simply start with Superman's landing outside the flagpole and saying, "General, would you like to step outside?"
* Delete the few violent bits of mayhem in the Metropolis battle and all the people being blown around. Therefore, cut straight to the villains smashing the wall to go outside, then cleverly editing it, so that they make a u-turn and come straight back into the Daily Planet.
* After that, go straight to the Fortress of Solitude- remove the violent action bits and cellophane paper. Go straight into the reversal of the powers... and stop when Superman shakes General Zod's hand- but cut away, so that Superman doesn't crush it (too violent). Similiarly, the falling into the ice.
* Instead, it goes straight into the truncated balcony scene- and because Lois never found out his secret and never had sex with Supes, we also eliminate the memory kiss scene. Instead, it goes straight into the Diner rematch scene--- only, there was no Diner scene to begin with. Also, the scene is pretty violent with Clark beating up the bully. So, the solution is to simply cut the scene to shreds and to end the scene soon as Clark enters the diner and says politely, "I believe you're sitting in my seat."
* Cut to Supes' returning the white house flag.
* And then, smiling in space.
Now, that's a clean family friendly version of SII. Only problem is, it makes the theatrical Superman IV seem coherent by comparison. ;p
