I'm embarrassed by that old cut now. ;D Very amateurish. Also, since my tastes have veered away from the Donner cut, I wouldn't watch it.

Still, I think the ideas you've used and the way it's been put together look pretty damn good from where I'm sitting. You should be proud of your work! I still enjoy your Superman IV cut, it's the only version I can watch now.

Why watch Superman IV in the first place? ;D I popped my cut of IV in briefly. It's hard to stomach. I can't believe I spent weeks on that. It makes a lot more sense story-wise though.

Well, I like to watch Superman IV just for fun. I know it's the weakest of the lot but it brings back old memories and it's nice to see fresh Reeve footage even if the deleted scene stuff is a little crappy.
I also agree about the story thing as well. I don't end up going 'WTF?!?' when suddenly you see a massively botched cut where a scene used to be like for example the russian missle and the tornado. It's nice to have those scenes back. ;D

My cut of Superman IV? No, I didn't post anything on Youtube.
There are other examples on there from others who had the same idea though.

Was it difficult to make this cut, Jimbo? Or was it easy as 1-2-3?

Great work - I'm particularly taken by the hybrid Jor-El/Lara scenes. I still cringe when I see the DC repowering scene though. The cheap looking blood and the seizure when Jor-El touches Supes really turn me off. I can live with the make up, but I'd recut the scene for sure, showing Supes bathed in white light, then cutting away before Jor-El does the magic touch. Ugh.

Thanks for the comments.
For those who requested a copy - I will be sending out copies this week. After weeks of stop-and-go tweaking, this mutha is done.
Edit: I'm not sending out anymore discs, so don't ask.

My apologies for my delay in posting some thoughts about this cut; it arrived at my home several weeks ago and I wanted to think carefully about it before I posted anything.
This will be the version of Superman II I watch from now on. The use of Lara/Jor-El was astute; retaining some elements of the Lester cut (especially the Niagara scenes and the deleted souffle/arctic patrol scenes) really contributed to the overall experience. Keeping the "Free!" chant from Zod out of the cut also helped.
My qualms aren't with the cut per se, more so the source material. I hate the Thau repowering, specifically the Chris Reeve seizure, the regurgitated score and the floating head. In my world, I would've just had a huge flash when Jor-El's head disappear, and cut away, leaving the audience to guess what had happened.
I also can't stand the Eiffel tower sequence, though oddly, it works better for me than the deleted XK101 sequence. I know someone did a recut of the Eiffel tower sequence that took away the ridiculous pause between Supes' rescue of Lois and "It's a bomb!" Um, yes it is, and Superman wouldn't waste a second letting a timer click in the presence of millions of innocent people. So, in my world, I'd reedit the Eiffel Tower sequence removing that stupid scene where Lois uses the dictionary and all of the Lois dialogue under the elevator except "It's a bomb!".
I'd also clip Lex's remark about "even when I lose I win" in the trip to the North Pole, as it refers to the XK101 explosion which didn't happen in this cut - it was jarring to hear it here.
I was very grateful for the removal of the "3, 2, 1, blast off!" dialogue in the Arctic Patrol scene as it was incredibly cheesy.
Jimbo had guessed that "Donner padded" ABC TV cut of SII might be the way to go - I fully agree. His cuts aren't necessarily the issue (with the minor quibble about the missile remark being left in). The source material lets down the film, either because of stupid comedy, bad editing, or poor choice of tone. That said, this version of SII feels more complete than the RDC, and benefits from some clever work, particularly the now awesome Jor-El/Lara scenes.
Great work!

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I was very grateful for the removal of the "3, 2, 1, blast off!" dialogue in the Arctic Patrol scene as it was incredibly cheesy. You may want to rewatch that scene. I didn't remove that part. I did remove the Smallville Strongboy part though.

me and mrs jor had a lot of fun w/it. she ripped up lois lane's cornball dialog, but we love this flick to pieces. having jor AND lara really magnified the scene imo.

The Mrs. Jor seal of approval was worth the effort.

Jimbo, forgive me if this has been asked. You mentioned you inserted the scene where Non kills the boy. Is this the footage from the cinematic saga documentary? How does it look?
keen to get a copy of this one.

It looks great. Indistinguishable from the rest of the movie. I pulled it from ADM's cut. He did a great job overall cleaning up the deleted scenes.
