bah, can't see them because I'm the UK. Although the special effects are crappy in III and IV, I would still love to watch them in HD and more importantly the Lester cut of II.

Gosh, Superman IV in HD is just gonna make those curtains on the moon all the more apparent. With Superman II hopefully coming out on Blu-ray someday, I guess we can expect some HD Superman fan cuts in the near future. ;D
How weird that HD versions are available on cable before being for sale.

I thought III had some great effects. IMO they were more creative than those in II. Not as good as STM but no where near as bad as IV. The scene where SUperman enters the canyon is fantastic- oneof the best in all four movies. I can't wait to see them all in HD!

Okay, what I was referring to (in III) was the poor apparent wires shown when Reeve was flying - examples are when he arrives at the chemical plant fire and when he leaves to rescue some workers and another is when he takes off to go to the junk yard when he is evil. Other than that, I completely agree, the zoptic effects are better.

Superman III originally does not show the wires, the problem is wen the edited on DVD, the process of remastered, errase the painted areas showing the wires, only in superman IV remeber to see in the cinema some wires.

No sale for me unless they have the Return to Krypton deleted scenes and others that didn't appear on the other DVD.

The original Blu-ray is good enough for me. If the only thing they're adding to the table is uncompressed audio, then I'll pass. I want more deleted scenes and a commentary. Perhaps even an extended cut.

Holing off on this, if MOS ever gets done there will no doubt be a new collectors edition.
But the real question is - does SR look any better on Blu-Ray? I seem to remember a comparison claiming that the DVD was extremely bad quality in order to make the Blu look a lot better. To be fair, my DVD version (R1) does look pretty close to how it looked to me in the cinema, but still pretty damn murky.

Superman IV in HD!?! What has the world come to? Will the polystyrene fire hydrants stand out more now? Will the curtains on the moon be even more visible???

this really only for people that can do the trueHD/pcm on their receiver. I own the receiver that can do this. I also have the HDdvd. its more about that then anything else.
I would hope they would release a longer cut of superman returns with the missing scenes. I think it would help the film.

The plan to completely dishonor the memory of Christopher Reeve?

Yeah...not buying another version of this in ANY format until they give me the Return to Krypton sequence! Either as part of the movie, or in a bonus section.

I'm buying it, I'm a sucker to these kind of releases. Like the newly released special edition Batman movies in DTS sound. Sometimes there are more differences they don't mention on the transfer in video quality, as shown in my DVD differences thread. There was even a difference between Batman Returns standard edition and Batman Returns special edition in terms of picture - which was like night and day. The same with The Matrix movies, they added a green tint to The Matrix when it originally didn't have one. See: www.dvdactive.com/editorial/articles/the-matrix-visual-comparison.htmlwww.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDReviews7/batmanreturns.htm

On SkyHD they recently had The Matrix on one of the HD channels and it didn't have the green tint as seen in the HD-DVD versions.

The Blu-ray is indeed waaay better. All the murkiness is gone and the color is brighter. didn't you have to change the settings on your flatscreen ?? if you like the bluray better i will take your advice, my SR is from the big box set.

Nah, only if you want to be a perfectionist, and that was for the DVD.
The Blu-ray could still use a bit of tweaking as the movie is still inherently brown, but the colors are much brighter than the DVD.
