Hey guys. Been a while since I posted.
I just bought a new PS3 for a really good price. I would now like to start buying my favorite movies in that format.
I am pretty sure I recall STM being in the blu-ray format as well as SR and SII the Donner Cut. Does anyone know if SII the theatrical version is available in blu-ray? Howbout the full Superman Anthology collection that comes with like 9 disks or whatever it was.
Also can anyone tell me how good the picture quality is on these blu-rays? Does the quality look pristine or is sub par compared to a lot of newer releases given these were released almost 3 years ago?
Thanks

STM looks pretty good, but it could use another new transfer. Not to mention some lossless audio. They need to set up some branching so they can have both cuts.
Donner Cut - meh, why bother.
Superman Returns - The picture is pretty terrible. A step up from the fuzziness of the DVD, but it's still very brown and pale. Whoever color timed the movie should look at STM for guidance. Audio is great though.

I actually like SR's transfer. The reason it looks dark is because of the damn filter Singer decided to use.

pretty much what jim said.
STM looks fantastic (even the obvious SFX stuff that appears - curtains, etc)
SR is the worst Blu-ray I have ever seen in terms of picture quality

Wasn't it mentioned a while bacl that BluRay was the only way to watch SR? Now I hear that it still looks bad.

It looks even worse on DVD. Still not as bad as the DVD for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Just saying. One of the benefits of having a standard definition TV, I barely notice these deficiencies.

The Donner cut blu ray feels like a up conversion DVD..it does lack detail in the image and thats not down to the photography being too soft. STM yeah needs a new scan at a higher resolution..
Superman returns is ok on bluray, as we have discussed before the dark photography and lack of contrast gives the film a dull look.

I noticed that too Olly. I even noticed that the transfer for the STM in the christopher reeve superman dvd collection (which comes with the Special Edition and the Theatrical) was using a different transfer than from the previous editions. They did something with the contrast which clearly did not benefit the picture at all.
I had a thread comparing all this a while ago, with screenshots. I can't remember what it was called though.

What kind of receiver do I need to take advantage of the Dolby TrueHD soundtrack? I have the SR 5.1 Blu-Ray and haven't yet updated to the other because I don't think I have the right equipment to take advantage of it.
Prove me wrong.

try getting hold of a Onkyo Receiver. They are great amps and at a good price. They all support Dolby HD etc. Superman Returns is the only title that has Dolby HD ( US only). Warners were being cheap ass dicks and didn't bother to reissue the other films in HD audio.
