No plans. Warner Bros. is DONE regarding Superman, both on the big screen and for home video.
STM 2001, S2 Donner Cut and SR is all we're going to get for a LONG time.

I saw STM on a great movies set with some random films. Don't know if it's a good Blu Ray disc tho.

Do any of you think Superman II - III will get restored picture and sound for blu ray release ? I sure hope they will get restored treatment like STM did.

As far as im aware nothing has been announced regarding the theatrical SII and SIII. But i hope they give them a good transfer to 1080 and in TrueHD 5.1! not bloody stereo.

Probably won't happen until the new Superman movie comes out. Studios love those tie-ins

I was very vocal with the DVD producer of those two 2006 releases about obvious visible wires. He blew me off stating that it's "old product". Lame.
WHV knows where I stand with wire removal. I will keep reminding them and keep pushing for Lester's SII on Blu-ray with GOOD audio (not DD 5.1 only).

In the early days of Blu-ray, WHV was the biggest culprit in providing lossy DD 5.1 audio tracks. By 2009, they finally got it and provided lossless Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD audio tracks.
If they released any new Superman releases, odds are they'd have lossless audio.
I would loooooove to get theatrical STM with lossless stereo (or 5.1) of the original sound mix.

Why are WB so lazy?? Most studios try to cash in on their great movies but WB seem to have to be forced to release them!!

I agree 1000%!
Because of their track record for procrastination and laziness, I'm pretty sure that if Singer hadn't bought the Brando rights for SR--- we'd STILL be waiting to see the Donner Cut--- even though fans have been arguing for it for years....!
Why don't they want fans' money? Makes zero sense....

Would it cost a lot of money to do wire removal in Superman II and III?

No sure if they had the master in HD on their system (all movies they convert to HD they store their digital master the same way we'd have word documents or photos saved) and it would be a matter of going through each frame and removing them. So e.g. let's say there are 15 mins of flying shots at 24 fps that would mean they've to remove wires from 360 frames.
Am I right in saying that??

There are HD copies of Superman II and III out there. They've been on cable.
Theatrical S2 needs a serious restoration though.

Well, 15 minutes equals 900 seconds. At 24 frames each second, that would be 21,600 frames, right?

Don't they have computer problems programs that seek things like that out and remove them on-the-fly?

I remember watching the 2001 dvds and seeing wires in Superman III.
They did very good wire removal in Superman The Movie. Anyone have any details on how this was achieved? Optically I guess, but what a bitch that must have been.

Jim Well the producer had tunnel vision and actually didnt care to hear anybodies thoughts on superman. He just wanted to get it done and cheap. Hopefully when they revisit the series we will get some one capable and someone who actually CARES about superman.

I don't know if they have computer problems ....but years back, on the "Akira" special edition dvd, they showed how Hollywood had a computer program that made it pretty easy (although you still needed a person to man the machine) - or at least relatively easy to fix and restore a picture.... essentially, if you find a scratch, you tell the machine to take that area from either the previous or later frame and copy that area to fill in the scratched area/damaged part of the frame. Could easily be used for wire removal, I imagine. If wire removal (and it can) be done on the home computer, Hollywood surely has a better way to do it.

I got Superman III in HD but still haven't managed to get it too work with Panasonic Blu ray, my player is really picky at what resolution it will accept. I think Superman III just needs a re-calibration on its transfer, whoever did the telecine job seems to have whacked up the brightness and sharpness so you can see the wires in certain shots.I think its really only the chemical plant and the leaning tower of piza shot that the wires are visible.

S2 does need a serious restoration. While I was doing my fan cut, I realized that the Donner Cut, for all it's flaws, had MUCH better color. I would look at the same frames side by side, and it was clearly obvious. I wasn't crazy about the FOS being blue and green, as I'm so used to it being white, but making the moon scenes with a blue hue not only works better, but I also can't see the black curtains. I think that's also the reason Thau chose to make the shot "turn" when the villains fly away.
I will say this though, When Reeve is landing with the boy in his arms at Niagra Falls, in the theatrical I can see the wires. Donner Cut, no wires.
