I think some kind of embargo was just made. I think. And no, I haven't seen it. ;D It doesn't have any CGI villains, but it does have a CGI superhero.

I think some kind of embargo was just made. I think. This is true. And, according to the fine print, we're abiding by it. Regarding Superman Returns, I will see it at some point. Probably this year. You see, I had an inkling when it came out that it would be met with a lukewarm response and that the franchise was destined for development heck again. So I figured I'd save SR for a rainy day. That way I'd still have a new Superman movie to watch that I'd never seen before. ;D

If it's a lame film, why do you continually talk about it? I'm guessing that you've seen it more than once? Two, three, four times? Didn't you go on the radio in 2006, talking about it being a lame film? I've seen it twice BTW. Yep, and I've only seen it once, haven't really discussed it since.

I have no problem with this line and delivery by Kate at all; I thought only a very few people in the world knew about kryptonite and its effects on Supes. Or am I missing something? Only Lois, Lex (and henchmen) knew about it, no? All the world knew about Supes (via Lois' first interview with him) was that he couldn't see through lead, that he was an alien who fought for truth, justice and the America way, and that he had superpowers, including flight. In general, I liked Kate's performance. She was solid, and I think she can act. She has easily more depth as an actress than say Durance, who tries too hard to be funny sometimes and comes off as shallow and annoying often. Kate is a more serious actress.

I suppose.... but since the line feels SO functional- ("we have to explain this element to the audience so that they GET IT before its introduced")--- I doubt there would be many people that would be upset if Kitty asked Lex, or one of the thugs asked Lex about it, over Lois and Richard. Does it make a difference? Well, I, for one, would have preferred it that way, as Lex and his gang were talking exposition bits here and there anyways--- with the line and where it was at, it stuck out a bit. If there's a fan cut, that line is OUT. But that's just my own feeling on it. Apparently, the line is fine with a lot of folks. That's cool..... to THEM.

I think the question is, which is worse (or better, if that's your frame of mind, after all, let's not focus on the negative!)
"Personally, I think that's load of crap"
or
"It's deadly.........to him."

In hindsight, maybe it's just the William Shatner method of excessive pause-acting (is that a word? O well)... I think if she said, "Personally, I think that a load of....(SHATNER PAUSE)...crap.", 'crap' would have been worse. For my two cents, "Deadly....to him" and "Truth, justice....all that stuff"* feel like creative compromises, and that I would have been fine if neither lines were in the film. ((*I'm not as upset as the nutty guy who ranted at Richard Donner and Phyllis Coates about that line at Comicon, but, still, it's a squirm-worthy line.))

The Shatner pause can only be done by the Shat.
Nuff said.

Fair enough. Having said that, I suppose ANY good line can be destroyed by the dangerous Shatner pause device- Even the best lines from the Superman movies- Evidence: "General, would you care to step.....outside?" "I'm here for Truth, justice, and the American........................way." Ok, I'm............done.

Funny that they feel the need to explain what Kryptonite is, but they don't bother with the significance of Addis Ababa.

But Bosworth is no Shatner.
Crappy line, crappy dialogue, and there really was no emotion to it. I don't see what others see there. Really mediocre.
A lot of the dialogue just sucks in SR. Nowhere near the caliber of: "Peter Pan flew with children, Lois. In a fairytale." or "This is no fantasy." or, just, fucking, ANY single line from Superman '78. When Jeff East DUBBED with Chris's voice just says "Mother", you choke up. Just ONE WORD!
So I guess all of my feelings toward SR are just in general "it's mediocre". And if it's mediocre, it isn't Superman.

The line is delivered naturally, & makes perfect sense with the way she is laundry list rattling off things to Richard & I cant believe some folks didn't understand that most people in the world within the Donnerverse would not know that Kryptonite is deadly to him.

It's fair to have all one's feelings towards SR be compared to Superman '78.... mine are, too--- (as are probably everyone's here on the forum), it's just interesting how everyone can be so similiar here, but then have such extreme feelings on both ends- when it comes to what we were hoping for in SR-
I thought enough of SR was exceptional, but not everyone feels that way. Fair enough. I do wonder if MOS would have made everyone on both sides of the aisle happy, though....
