There's no way I'd stand under a car for long periods that's being held up by cables. These behind the scenes photos gives us a glimpse of the kind of risks Reeve took to film these movies.

There's no way I'd stand under a car for long periods that's being held up by cables. Especially with that movie's budget.

Agreed!!! Looking forward to seeing more as well! * Also love the comic book panels by Sebastian--- Totally agree, DC/WB are extremely foolish to not even be open to TALKING to Sebastian about doing work for them! (*sigh*)

I agree- I think that's the thing about Superman IV--- as disliked as it is, the effort (and heart) I argue was still there, even if the results leave a lot to be desired.

I disagree. The heart might have been there in the conception stage, but by the time they wrote out the script, it was devoid of heart. Cheap cash-in by second-rate screenwriters. I bet Reeve knew this was going to blow before shooting even began.

That's fair- but I liked the script enough on the page, months before seeing how the movie executed it on the screen (bought it from a convention).
Much like how Mike Matessino in an interview said that he saw a different movie in his head when he listened to the soundtrack, with perfect fx and production values- I had a similiar experience in reading the script. Except for maybe one or two scenes, even when it followed the script, it looked NOTHING like how I imagined it would play like (in a bad way).... even the ones that seemed like it would be a cinch to nail. (i.e. classroom scenes with Jeremy as painfully forced, rather than innocent & most of the Luthor scenes)

I agree with Jimbo
A $200M budget could not have saved the "moving the moon" concept for example.
Or the shameless STM ripoffs.
The script was poor from the off. Sure its not as bad as the SIII script but that's no excuse

For the sensibilities that they were going for with the first few films (and trying to make it fit into the weird continuity of the 'memory kiss')- it certainly wasn't "the Dark Knight", but remember this- they went to Mank in the bts stuff, and Mank mentioned that by that point, Donner & Mank felt like all the good stuff was done (but also that the well had already been poisoned at that point). Mank also said that he didn't think Superman should get involved with the 'real world' stuff at the time. I disagree- I thought it enjoyable (and a little daring) that they did. I don't think Rocky Balboa should ever get involved with the 'real world' stuff, though. Anyhow, I stick by my statement. It had some fun concepts that gave Reeve and company stuff to work with- that can still be enjoyed as a big fanfilm- but it was really executed horribly from the get go. If there was a solid choice to go back into the past and say 'no fourth Superman movie with a Reeve performance' vs. 'bad Superman IV film'---- I'm glad to have seen a fourth one exist, even with the flaws.
