The four Superman films are now available to rent or buy from the iTunes store. What's odd is that only II and III are available in HD on Apple TV. I can understand IV not being upgraded due to the cheapness of the film, but it doesn't make sense that the original Donner film isn't.

Especially as you can't get III in HD?!
Is II the RDC or theatrical?

All the films are the theatrical versions.

So that's basically BOTH II and III which you can't get in HD being made available in HD for download.
Plus if they did STM then that would be another as only the extended cut has been available in HD.
Madness!

James Berardinelli believes that digital downloads will be the next format after Blu-Ray.
Isn't Apple TV less expensive than a blu-ray player?

It is but it also depends on which model.
Plus comparisons to 360 and PS3 have to be made as both are capable of downloading films. Only PS3 is ALSO capable of playing BR discs naturally.
What may be a factor is where you live. US is content abound. UK apparantly is rather limited.
Not sure the Apple TV is worth it. It's a cool little object but all it can do AFAIK is download film, music and pictures and sync said libraries to your Mac I believe.
It seems a little useless to me. A PS3 (and I can't believe I'm saying this because I hate Sony) is a better bet. Certainly more value for money.
As for digital downloads becoming the future. I definately think it will replace the rental market which has dropped dramatically and it will more than likely dent the DVD and BR market but I can't see it replacing either. Try giving a download as a gift.
Besides I much prefer an actual object in my hands for my money. If it's just a download then I may as well turn to piracy. Which would be the exact same result but free.

As of Nov 25, Superman Returns has joined the Chris Reeve films. No HD for Apple TV, though.
