He passed away on Saturday. He was suffering from cancer for four years. When I met him in 2006 he looked in bad shape.

Awful news.
Rest in peace, Tom. None of us would know each other if not for you.

Ah, horrible news. He was too young.
I'll rent and watch Dragnet in his honor.

Ahh no. Sad sad news. From all the interviews he seemed like a real nice guy. I wasn't aware he had cancer.
Dragnet it is Jim. What about a live chat in his honour?

sad news. After seeing it here, I searched the news sites and nothing. Only other reference was on the Bond sites. Its true Kev, all our lives would different if it wasnt for Tom's writing, among a few other things which came together perfectly to create the movie we all know and love called Superman. Cheers Tom Mankiewicz, thanks for some good Bond moments too.

I remember being concerned for his health, but he shrugged it off. I got the feeling he was very lonely living up there in the hills. I guess he had his work to occupy him. He was working on his memoirs.

Stuff like this really makes me think of how old I'm getting. Seems like only yesterday that I was a kid and enjoying the work of people like Mankiewcz and others in STM and now he's passed away along with Reeve, Brando, Ford. etc.
RIP, Tom. Thanks for all the good work.

Thanks a million for your contributions, Mankiewicz. I still wonder what else he had in mind for his Dick Tracy script.

Thanks for your three Bond movies and Superman. I had just watched Live and Let Die and The Man With The Golden a gun a few days ago. As said many times before a very gifted and wonderful screenwriter.
