If there is already a thread on this matter,I understand if this is locked.
Just got it on blu ray for £7. I have lost count how many times I have bought this film over the years-and probably wont be the last purchase either.
It looks amazing,I'm really impressed with the picture quality. Any one else have this or TDC on blu ray?

I have STM and SR on Blu-ray. I absolutely love both Blu-ray's. The Blu-ray does reveal a few things I didn't notice before on the standard DVD. The black curtain when Krypton goes boom, the wires during the Lois and Supes flying scene. The stars going through Reeve and Kidder while they're flying, but still, I love it!
SR, it's a decent transfer, but the filter and the artificial grain make the movie look a little odd. It's way better than standard DVD, but Singer is to blame for the Blu-ray not being what it should be.
As for TDC, I don't know. I don't know of anyone who bought it. Although, I may buy it if I see it at a discounted price.

Not sure exactly which version of the DVD it is though. One of the DVD versions has some definite contrast differences from the others so it might be that one. See my original thread for PQ differences between versions: fortressofsolitude.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=superman&action=display&thread=87

I never saw the curtains on the 2001 DVD. Are there curtains on the new extended cut DVD in the box set? I've never seen it since I have the Blu-ray.
A while back, Booshman went back and remade the theatrical cut, making cuts in the movie and using the audio from the theatrical cut DVD.
I know that for the laserdisc, there was PCM audio. Does anyone know where I could get that audio track? That would go much better with the theatrical cut in HD.

ADM might have used the laserdisc audio for his "Feed the babies" cut but I am not really sure. I know he definitely provided the option for the 1978 audio of some form though.

I bet WB has no intention in releasing the theatrical versions of STM or S2 anytime soon. Maybe when Nolan's movie comes out. An updated Blu-ray release with all of the deleted scenes of the four Reeve films would be amazing.

I'm waiting for SR br to be shipped to me,will order TDC soon. But,yea...I want the theatrical cuts of the first two Reeve films also.
Wonder what else there is (all be it,apart from STM 3hr) they could include on a br box/tin set.

Just the RDC with the redone sound mix. It's pretty much the 2001 DVD in HD.

See, I don't get that. This Blu Ray came out around the same time as all the other Superman releases in 06, right? So why is that the theatrical cut finally finds it's way onto DVD, but not the Blu Ray?

It's because they had an old HD master of the 2001 version sitting around. They had to make a new master for the theatrical cut of STM, and I assume that was only at 480p. The 2001 DVD and 2006 Blu-ray are both struck from the same master. That was the cheapest (and therefore most appealing) option.

The thing I don't get about the 2006 DVDs is that the Director's cut version of STM is obviously not using the cleaned up version found in the 2001 DVD. This is because the contrast is completely different and some of the flying shots have Superman's suit as green instead of the recoloured blue. I can't help but wonder if they got the transfers the wrong way round for the 2006 DVDs the same way the screwed up the 1978 audio.

I remember hearing about that in 2006. That's why I never got rid of the 2001 DVD. I've never seen the extended version on the 2006 DVD.

It's actually pretty fun to watch seeing what looks like an older untouched master. It isn't as vibrant as the 2001, it kinda looks closer to the colours of SII Theatrical but not as dark. It to me looks the closest I remember my old VHS tapes looking like. Now, if the extended/directors 2006 DVD version had the original 1978 audio (which was on the theatrical 2006 dvd only) then you'd have both old audio and picture together for the ultimate past time experience, except for the extra scenes of course.
