About 17 movies to choose from...
S1-4, Somewhere in Time, Bostonians, Street Smart, Remains of the Day, Aviator, Speechless, Village of the Damned, Switching Channels, Deathtrap, Noises Off, Above Suspicion
My Top 5 are... STM Somewhere in Time Superman III (worse film than 2, but great Reeve performance) Superman II Deathtrap

Not counting the Superman movies its Deathtrap, Somewhere in Time, Noises Off, Remains of The Day, and Street Smart.
I need to sit down and watch Monsignor again one of these days. I don't really remember much about it.

Noises Off is great. Loved seeing two of my icons (Reeve & Ritter) in the same movie!

Noises Off is great. Loved seeing two of my icons (Reeve & Ritter) in the same movie! Its a flawed film version of the play but I enjoy it. Lots of familiar faces and comedians in it. Reeve and Ritter trying to out perform each other in physical comedy is funny cause they were both so good at it.

Remains of the Day is head and shoulders above the others
Then
Switching Channels Street Smart
The rest I find naff, but at the top of the list: Somewhere in time Death Trap
Good Lord, I just can't list any others. I dislike them so much or they're pointless TV movies.
How the fuck did Reeve's career get so bad he was making TV shit?

I haven't see that one; I do have the DVD somewhere. Next time I have a Reeve marathon*, I'll check it out
Switching Channels really gets going in the 2nd half which ironically Reeve wasn't in much.
*unlikely.

I have only ever seen bits from Reeve's other movies, most due to the fact I hardly ever see any on TV. I have seen the Rear Window remake he did, all the way through, and that was pretty damn good, considering Reeve was paralysed at the time. I have also seen most of Village of the Damned which was OK.
So what movie do you guys think I should start with, that is really his best outside of Superman?
*hopes for some acting similar to what was shown in SIII as Evil Superman*

Anyone ever see him in Grey Lady Down? Ned Beatty was in this too, before STM.
Loved him in Death Trap and Noises Off.

Most rewatched Reeve films:
*STM *SII (fancuts) *Somewhere in Time *Deathtrap *SIV
He was actually GREAT in "Switching Channels"- although in a minor part. (Pity that Michael Caine had to drop out & be replaced by Burt Reynolds. Caine and Reeve seemed to have great rapport. *sigh*)

So far from what I've seen of him: STM SII Somewhere in Time Deathtrap Village of the Damned was ok but nothing especial. I also remember seeing this film on tv years ago where Reeve played a pedophile..... and he was good... Don't remember the name of it. It was really weird to see Superman in that role. ;D Would love to see his other movies.

The four you mentioned are the cream of the crop, so to speak.
Aside: The only reason I'd mentioned SIV on my list- is not for the quality, but the number of times I'd seen it. A good film it isn't. Even though I defend the original script, if it didn't have Reeve, then there really wouldn't be a reason to have this on the dvd shelf....

It was really weird to see Superman in that role. ;D That's Death Dreams, around 1991. I thought he was actually good in this but the film was cheesy. I haven't seen it in years Reeve's entrance in the film was a lot like his closeup before he shags Lorelei in S3 IMO www.imdb.com/title/tt0101691/

Thanks, ye5man! I don't remember much from the movie, but yes, Reeve seemed good in it.

Anyone see The Aviator?
For me, it's Deathtrap.
I don't know how Reeve wasn't nominated for that role.

That's Death Dreams, around 1991. No, "Bump in the Night" is the film where Reeve played a paedo.

Ahh my mistake
Guru, while you're obviously reading this reply to your comment, did Frank get his comics back in the end?

Above Suspicion gets a vote in my book.
Then Deathtrap and Street Smart.
Somewhere in time is okay, cheezy ending, but ok. Well made I'd say.
Aviator is good too, not worth too much hyping about. But better than some other stuff.

Problem I had in Above Suspicion *major spoilers below*
(apart from we don't see enough of Kim K's titties) is Reeve killed 2 people and got away with it, but the way the film was set up we were supposed to be cheering for him
The guy stabbing him in the leg and him not flinching was also BS

Honestly I think someone with Superman looks and physique is hard to cast in other things. Look at Chris Helmsworth!

Honestly I think someone with Superman looks and physique is hard to cast in other things. Look at Chris Helmsworth! I think Supes is such an all enveloping quasi mythological character that whoever inhabits the role will have a hard time shaking it off, career wise. Routh and Cavill are now associated with the character , irrespective of the quality of their portrayals. Imagine if Brando had taken on Supes in the 50s instead of George Reeves!.......even he would have struggled to disassociate himself from the role after the fact. With regards Chris Reeve , I think his artistic choices in the early 80s were excellent. DeathTrap,The Bostonians and Somewhere In Time are all fine little films within ther own sub genres. And Reeve has been on record saying there was whole load of cut footage from Monsignor ,which he speculated could have been re-edited into a better version of that film. I would like to see that , if it should ever come to pass. From the mid to late 80s onwards Reeve's movie role choices were not neccessarily the best.......the worst offender being SIV!
