Interesting they are showing the donner cut over the original version.

Also interesting that McClure is hosting it.
Reminds me of the Jack Larson hosted "Adventures Of Superman" marathon they used to show every Thanksgiving up here!

Bummer, I was really looking forward to watching the theatrical version of Supes II. I know it was on BBC America a few days ago, but I don't have BBC AmericanHD.

Seems to me that they're really trying to make people forget about the theatrical versions. This saddens me because the theatrical of S1 is what I grew up with, so I'm used to it. As for 2, I think all has been said about the various tv cuts (for me it was the ABC cut). Considering the horrible editing job on the DC, I can only hope that when people see the DC they will concentrate more on the new scenes and not focus on how horrible the editing is.
3 and 4 I could care less about lol. "Superman Redeemed" is enough for me.

I hate the idea that the DC is becoming the de facto version of Superman II. It has a Blu-ray release while the theatrical version doesn't, and it's now part of cable marathons.
While it contains superior elements than the theatrical cut (Brando, more consistent tone stemming from lack of slapstick), the DC still has a subpar execution. For all its flaws, theatrical S2 is still the better movie, since it's, you know, an actual FILM. Someone came in and composed the score, a professional editor edited the film, and professional effects houses created the visual effects. Just the little things to show that someone actually gave a damn putting it together.

Is Warner Brothers going all George Lucas on us? Just the little things to show that someone actually gave a damn putting it together. I agree with all of this. In fact, I'm more inclined to watch individual scenes from the cut rather than the whole thing (one of the blessings of DVD/BluRay scene selection).

WB has to get as much return for it's investment in the DC of S2. If it promoted to the average viewer as a new cut then there may be more viewers out of curosity.

Where did you get your information that the Superman II being shown on Encore is the RDC? The website indicates that Richard Lester is the director and shows the theatrical poster. I also called Encore this morning and they confirmed that it is the Lester version.
Thanks.

Contrary to what the Encore website shows for Superman II, Marc McClure just informed me that he did an intro opener for the Donner Cut, NOT the Lester Cut. The Encore website page shows the Lester Cut trailer, one-sheet poster and Lester as the director. Since the Encore schedule shows both "SE" and non "SE" showings, I recommend recording one of each to be on the safe side. Here is the link to their page: www.starz.com/titles/SupermanIIThe Encore schedule is as follows (copied and pasted from their website): * Saturday, October 16th o Encore SE* 10:35pm * Wednesday, October 20th o Encore SE* 4:10pm * Saturday, October 23rd o Encore Wam 2:15am * Monday, October 25th o Encore SE* 5:45am * Thursday, November 4th o Encore Action 5:40pm * Sunday, November 14th o Encore Action 8:20am o Encore Action 6:20pm * Tuesday, November 23rd o Encore Action 7:50pm * Saturday, November 27th o Encore Action 12:20pm * Friday, December 3rd o Encore 5:20am * Thursday, November 4th o MoviePlex 6:40pm * Friday, November 19th o RetroPlex 3:45pm * Saturday, November 20th o RetroPlex 2:10am * Thursday, November 25th o RetroPlex SE* 2:00pm o RetroPlex SE* 10:35pm * Monday, November 29th o RetroPlex 10:00am o RetroPlex 5:50pm *UR: Title airing is the unrated version *SE: Title airing is a special edition, which indicates this is a Director's Cut, Extended Version, International Version, or Special Edition Jim Bowers

I knew it was the Richard Donner Cut because the promo for it specifically stated it. I know what you mean about the cable providers getting the information wrong. They did the exact same thing when it aired on AMC. That kind of blows that we don't get to see Lester's Superman II in HD until December. Hopefully, when they appear on Netflix next week, they'll be in HD.

Even Netflix lists the Donner Cut's director as Lester.
