AWESOME!!
More sense of action/adventure than all of SR - easily!!
Fuckingheck WB - THIS is what we want. Not introspection shit.

My lady made me watch My Super Ex-Girlfriend 2 nights ago (well she didn't make me... ) 20 minutes in and I thought to myself "This has more super-heroics than SR!" Cool vid though - very creative.

Very cool! Showcases a lot of the coolest action moments for both of them!

Balance. Action and character.
Without 'introspection sh*t' we wouldn't have had Supes' father/son moments, nor the training with Luke Skywalker in "Empire Strikes Back" (arguably the best SW film), half of the conflicts in "Lord of the Rings" and "Xmen"....
I've always said I would have been fine if SR bumped up the action & but kept the drama it already had it might have had enough for everyone to be happy...

SR had way too much of it going on
ESB was part of a trilogy that contained enough action; SR was too dark and murky

SR was too dark and murky Which is even more apparent when you watch this trailer! Reeve stands out so much more.

;D going by that trailer, it looks like Routh's Superman is beating the **** out of Reeve's.
Also of notice, IMO, the red in SR looks too dark in some scenes and the red in the Reeve movies looks WAY too bright it hurts my eyes! ;D We need more balance please!
Let's also remember that Reeve filmed several S movies while Brandon only did one.

;D going by that trailer, it looks like Routh's Superman is beating the **** out of Reeve's. That's because the violent footage of Routh was WAY OTT; the guy obviously knew it was too much for a comic book movie

I disagree.... but then again, SR is not a film that I can show my nieces and nephews- it is too intense for them.....which goes to my own feeling that you could/should have two versions of Superman on film: one 'for the young ones' and one for the "Dark Knight" crowd.
I grew up on comics just as they were stretching their muscles just as Alan Moore and Frank Miller- only at a time when movie studios were constantly pumping: "kids movie, kids movie- every superhero film has to be family film!" To see those myths be able to incorporate very human problems is/was fascinating to me- and daring.
I agree that there is a level that's too far, (which in many ways I think is there now- when heroes are brutally killing villains without an afterthought) but Singer's approach was edgy, and I can understand why some wanted a brighter family film from Superman- but it was like "Empire Strikes Back" --- but you make an interesting point--- Perhaps Superman should have started with a "Star Wars:A New Hope" model instead first.
If "Empire" came first before "SW:ANH"- it might well have been considered too dark and contemplative to start a new series.

It was way too violent for a Superman film. Did we really need to see him the the shit kicked out of him, dragged around, forced to put his face into a puddle, stabbed, then fall of a friggin mountain into the sea?
Christ. That's not what Superman is about.

I liked all of that. ^^ It showed that Superman can also be vulnerable physically (too many people often complain that Supes is too powerful), and it allowed us to see a more sinister side of Luthor. It was hardcore. I think some people, especially young males, also wanted to see Superman hitting the bad guys back. However, he couldn't do that because they are only human after all.
I know you want the S movies to be lighter stuff, but IMO that just doesn't cut it anymore. Sure make Supes the nice guy he always is, but he can also be a real badass when necesary like in the cartoons and animated movies. Have you seen those? yeah, he fights a lot. Hard.

Star, these same blokes will be jerking each off other in the theater when Superman rips out someone's throat in the Snyder movie ;D Its just more SR bashing for the sake of it. When it gets even more violent in their upcoming "REAL MANLY SUPERMANLY MAN" movie by Snyder, it will be like porn for them.

I was fine with it.... but, again, I wouldn't let my 7 year old nephew see it. Too disturbing for him. If I had a savvy 13 year old, though--- it's fine. It was a choice to continue on (a little deeper and darker) with Donner's Christ metaphor--- there's far more disturbing stuff (to me) in most videogames that 10 year olds are able to get ahold of. Comics have gotten far more violent and brutal- as has most pop entertainment. It's not that I'm happy about it, and I can see how it can be upsetting to see it taint a symbol of hope--- but, this was the 'Dark Knight' version of Superman to me, I loved it.... far better than most of the comics that are brutal with no point. There was a point that I could see it go to. It really was 'Passion of the Christ' meets Superman, and was ballsy to do it. Now, do I want to see ALL Superman movies have Superman kicked in the mud? No, of course not. But for Superman to have a 'spiritual rebirth' of sorts (as in the story), he had to have a 'spiritual destruction' of sorts. But I get why this dark version was upsetting to some. (I can imagine how pissed off the toy companies must have been.((" Superman vs. the Mountain? How do we sell that?")) Anyhow--- will be interesting to see if the new film is liked and/or if it DOESN'T have a dark tone, under Nolan & Goyer & Snyder....... I'd be shocked.

Well, for me, I didn't mind the violence.
What bothered me is that for Superman's big return, he gets his ass kicked way too many times in this movie. And there isn't even a super-villain.
When we first see him, he's crawling defeatedly out of the ship. He gets emotionally hurt with the whole Lois debacle. He gets his ass kicked by Luthor's underlings. He gets hurt during the film's climax and winds up in the hospital.
I don't mind seeing extreme violence if Superman were involved in an incredibly violent, drag-out, Doomsday style battle. But he gets hurt by Kryptonite...twice...when that's already been used as a crutch in the franchise. I would've preferred the violence be saved for action scenes.
I liked SR overall, but I also see it as a missed opportunity.
