Just watched Donner cut of SII (God I hate the editing) and I was wondering what Rocky in the diner would look like today. Well here he is! Also, the guy in the diner is an Irish actor and was in an episode of Father Ted! He's appears at 8 mins 20 sec!

Pepper Martin was a former pro wrestler, I wonder if he is at a wrestling convention?

What I didn't like about that scene was that Clark will still muscular. He didn't come out of the chamber a puny wimp. Sure he was vulnerable to pain, but he could probably still put up a fight. What was up with the "minute steak" quip? Clark was just as big as Rocky. Was the movie saying he was viewed as smaller than he really was?

He was sucker-punched. Sometimes when you're sucker-punched you never recover. Didn't Clark run into a glass window?

The movie is saying that Superman has a code of honour (would you care to step outside) but Rocky couldnt care less. Without powers Clark showed himself too much vulnerable and naive in a ordinary fight. The scene enhances the drama but it used to piss me off too. Fortunately Donner didnt include two young boys in that scene saying "Superman didnt do anything, lets get out of here" or watever they say in the Metropolis battle shot by Lester... ;D

Reeve's kid Will today This lad was born the year I left school. Fuck, I feel old! With his siblings. I think he inherited the looks.

I always saw Clark's beating in the diner scene as having more to do with him not knowing how to fight. Same reason the villains handed him his ass at first.
Here's a guy, who at that point in his life, has never thrown a punch. He's never been disoriented by a punch in the face, either. So, he didn't know what to expect or how to react.

Amazing. His kids look great. Matthew and Alexandra look like Chris the most. Chris would have been proud to see all three of them together like that.

Yeah, and I site the shock of pain as well too IMO. He's never been really hit hard by anyone or cut or bled by anything.

AGREED. If Donner had completed SII, I think we would have seen the Metro battle dig more into this aspect with the battle with the villains.
And, originally- I believe I read somewhere that it was a group of baddies in the diner (even more disturbing) that beat him up in a previous script.
