singer did say "wrath of kahn"...
it could not be without cost. someone has to go. and it has to be painful. heck, maybe in 25 years he can go to DC and do this as a graphic novel...

daaahahahahaaa!!!!
Regardless, this whole thing is about as believable as Kate Bosworth's portrayal of a hard-hitting, Pulitzer winning, reporter/single mom.

She wasn't a single mom. She was shacking up with some guy and leading him to believe he was the father.

Didn't I write that Man of Steel synopsis a few years ago?
Literally, I think over half of that shit is word for word what some of us came up with for the sequel.
It would've been jarring, however, to have the verisimilitudey Donnerverse Superman confront an alien space ship and fight hundreds of cyborgs.

I've been wondering back and forth on this- I went back directly to Dougherty's moviehole.com interview--- This section particularly... Had he gotten the call, the writer (now director; he helmed “Trick R’Treat”) says he would’ve introduced “Other Kryptonians – I’ll be purposely vague about that” into Supes’ world.
These Kryptonians “wouldn’t necessarily be evil right off the bat”, says Dougherty, “That’s too easy and cliché. I don’t think people just show up and they’re evil. In my mind, if the Kryptonians really were a space-faring race – which they obviously were – then it would only make sense that there would’ve been colonies and off-planet missions. So yeah, the possibility of other Kryptonians making their way to Earth seemed like a pretty big one in my mind.
“I think it’d be interesting to see how these other Kryptonians show up, land and have all these powers and [have to learn] how to adapt to them – when Clark got to grow up with [the powers]. Ya know… if you woke up with super powers tomorrow I think you’d have a pretty tough time adjusting to them”.
Dougherty might have also written “certain other classic villains” into his sequel.
“Brainiac was always interesting”, he admits. In re-reading the interview, the outline COULD be viable--- depending on how rough Singer allows outlines to begin with. The thing about Jason is: Did Singer always know that he was planning to kill off Jason right away before introducing him? Was this death shared with DC comics- to get their ok first, as Supes doesn't have a kid in the comics? The concept is definitely more brutal than The Dark Knight, primarily because of the use of the child...... but it'd be great if Singer was asked about this so that we knew flat out whether or not this was what he had in mind. If so--- that's a pretty terrible thing to sock onto these characters.... but if it's (like the Xmen movies) a storyline that was meant to exist even moreso on its own than the comics--- it's not impossible..... using this storyline might have ended up with a great movie, but one that would seem (to me) to be a movie that was unnecessarily extra extra dark.....

Superman fought Zod and co., Supes himself is also an alien. I think it would have been just fine, a normal progression of the story/universe. Ma Kent did tell Clark that the universe was a big place, that he couldn't be the only one out there.... hint for a villain there? YES AGREED, MAV. I just really would hate a movie where Jason dies. Hate it. And IMO it doesn't work with what SR stablished (father/son speech: "You will never be alone. You will make my strength your own...")

Of course, no matter how heavy things got and how many were killed, Superman can just solve everything afterwards by turning the world around. This is the verisimilitudy Donnerverse, right?

Bah! You know what I mean.
Does a big alien spaceship fit the world created in STM and SII and SR? I certainly think not but I suppose I'm on my own.

It could fit if done right.
To me, that was always the exciting thing about Singer continuing the Donnerverse.
Using the awesome setup of Krypton & Smallville of STM, & going forward to places & villains that weren't possible back in the day.

I'm not saying it wouldn't be awesome. I'm just saying it would seem a teeny bit out of place, that's all. I'd LOVE the shit out of a movie like that, don't get me wrong.

^But the Superman in the Donner/Singer films is pretty epically powerful. He's practically a demi-god. I can see him doing all those things. Plus this character is part fantasy and part sci fi... the guy shoots fire from his freakin eyes! The guy flies! The guy hears stuff from very long distances and has X-ray vision. If anyone can fight robots is him. This. Like in the Singer X films. It was pretty believable the way he did it. Damn you Singer.

Set it 10 years into the future and you get a teenage Jason.
I wouldn't buy Superman killing Jason, even if he is possessed, but I would accept this scenario: Jason, if portrayed as a mature teenager and not a douchebag in the previous two hours of screen time, could wrestle back control of his body from the Brain InterActive Construct (suck it, Smallville haters) and sacrifice himself for the good of the people of Earth.
Therefore, we get a noble son of Superman and a Superman without blood on his hands. I think people would buy that.
But, yeah, to give this thing any gravity or balls, somebody has to go.

Hmm, I dunno, it's still too dark, imo. I think it would turn Supes and Lois into some EXTREMELY sad parents. You just NEVER view life the same way once one of your kids dies.
Why do people want Jason to die? Is it really necessary? Why introduce him in the first place?
They could have pull a 'Mon-El' with Jason....

Death is a part of life. Death makes you realize how precious and fragile life is. As far as story like that would need to be executed, someone has to die. At least make the death count for something.
I for one am sick of seeing these stories where there are no consequences for the characters. At the end of two hours, everything is hunky-fucking-dory for everyone.
I stand by the fact that Singer had balls to take Superman a step beyond the norm and give him a broken, unrepairable relationship and a kid. Otherwise, what do we get beyond the tired plot of Superman saving the day? I want more -man in Superman. I want a character who will evolve.

Brad, I was thinking that exact same scenario earlier today! I'm sure many of us could come up with compelling stories 20 times better than anything WB will have churned out. Alas ...

That sounds much better..... but, personally, I'm still curious about the Richard White/Lois/Supes situation. Deceiving a guy into thinking that he's raising his own kid for years is pretty awful..... not addressing it at all would be a pretty big mistake imo.
But then again...... IESB mentioned other outlines prepared- pity that they don't release them ALL for us to view....

You know why? Because they're LYING!!! This is a hilariously poor hoax on the level of "Gordon has a beer and cheets on his wife" (look it up, if you're not familiar)
Guys, this is a big story. If it were true, why did they leave it for someone who writes like a twelve year old to post? Why have no other websites picked up on it? It's not like there's some kind of exclusivity here. Why is there not one single source named?
It's a crock. Not only is this a phony, but I bet that no outlines actually exist. Even that interview that Dougherty or whoever gave a couple of months ago about "oh, and the Kryptonians would be a spacefaring race, so of course, eventually, some escaped, and they come, and they're not evil at first, but THEN they're sorta evil, etc" just stank of somebody making shit up on the spot.
@star. Big points for the Mon-El reference. And actually, a very good idea.

Dougherty gave a similiar explanation for what Xmen 3 was going to be like under Singer--- but since he'd mentioned that it had been further along- it was AWESOME and felt very credible. At the very least- it's the guy who actually got the movie credit for writing X2 and SR, so.... even if he's making shite up--- (1) what would he gain? and (2) if it really was a rough idea stage--- then almost anything (one would think) is really possible.
IESB has had reliable stuff (from what I can tell) in the past.... but I don't follow all the movie stuff that they do. Have they had stuff that turned out to be b.s. later on?
I don't have any doubt that Singer could have made sure that the final script would have made sense, regardless of who he got to script for him. But- even if done well, the portion that I'd have a hard time with enjoying the film over and over again is turning a kid into a Frankenstein monster and having him die.
It's a valid story idea- but it'd be a bit too harsh for what would feel like not enough of a gain at the end. Wasn't Superman's persecution in SR (Which I was fine with) enough to get non-Superman fans to feel sympathy for the character?
Do you HAVE to make him and Lois parents who have their only child turned into a monster & killed?
If this is a true outline (I still have a degree of healthy skepticism, although I do believe the Dougherty podcast), then I do wonder if this was part of WB's hesitation to go forward.
WB- in all fairness- gave Singer no restrictions and no 'test audience' for SR. I don't mind my comic book films to have a lot of edge and darkness to them- but even I'd be a bit hesitant with this......but then again, going from outline form to script form is night and day.
Hopefully- we'll hear MORE about what's what on this.....
