Thankfully it never happened because John Byrnes MOS had a lot of crap in it.
It was Byrne trying to force HIS opinion and not writing organically from the character. No wonder so many people dropped his ideas later on. Even Lois and Clark dumped that birthing matrix bullsh*t.
If there must be a reboot (someday) take a few cues from The Animated series...which kicks Man of Steel's ass all up and down the street.

A No-Reeve Superman IV? Who would have taken his place? Gerard Christopher? I think he looked great as Superboy, but....

A 10 year old Tom Welling would have done a great job!

I just reread Byrne's Man of Steel and I was amazed at how stupid it was. The Bizarro story was the dumbest I've read in a long time. Great art though!

MoS (the movie) inherited a lot of this crap.
The genesis chamber nonsense was basically the birthing matrix idea

MoS (the movie) inherited a lot of this crap. The genesis chamber nonsense was basically the birthing matrix idea Byrne hated some things that made Superman Superman. Byrnes dislike for Superman’s immigrant story parallels are all over Snyder’s Man of Steel. In both Superman not only rejects Krypton but does it in an pretty cold blooded way. His Krypton is also the one most influenced by Byrne’s.

I liked Byrne's art and thought his version (warts and all) was interesting.... but I'm glad things he did never 'stuck for good'.... though it's interesting to hear that he didn't have total freedom from DC years later.
