I think you totally can and should have both in a comic book film--- besides, with the amount of money spent on these films, why aim low? Why NOT aim for it to try to be able to be about something as well as have the spectacle?
Two disaster films: "2012" and "The Road"- couldn't be more different. "2012" was a big happy disaster film with tons of things blowing up. "The Road" was a depressing (but compelling) scifi film about a father & a son surviving after a world disaster, at terrible costs.
"2012" made a shiteload of money, and got no respect. "The Road" got respect and no money. Can't a Superman movie have substance and the cool fun stuff?
The attraction of seeing Nolan's name on the new movie is the HOPE that it has intellgence & substance to it.
With Snyder, you'll get the visual fireworks.....
So, will see.... but I hate the idea of lobotomizing comic books (Green Lantern, THor's stuff on earth) for the big screen, rather than pushing the screenplays to have more depth (Dark Knight)....

haha, I'm not worked up or anything, sorry if I came across that way Here's something to chill us out Nah you didn't come across worked up, just that everyone was easily reminded by the things they didn't like about SR with this thread - I didn't intentionally mean to do that, is all. Nice pics though.

Could have been good if it wasn’t directed by a complete hack. Oddly enough we did get Routh back as Superman for a small appearance and Snyder’s balls to the wall action only killed the Superman franchise off harder than Superman Returns ever did. We got MOS 7 years after SR. It’s been 9 years and counting since MOS.

I thought the theatrical was ok-to-good, myself. Not great. I'm the rare few here that actually really liked the Snyder cut- there's still unintentionally funny bad moments now and then, but I definitely prefer it to a good number of the weaker superhero films that have happened in the last 20 years. Also, watch it right after watching Wonder Woman 1984, and it's MUCH better by comparison. Ough.
