Gotta admit, now that I plan on learning how to do my own rotoscoping, and considering that Sel hasn't done anything in years, I really don't care for what Selutron has to offer anymore. He came up with some great ideas, but I came up with some great ideas as well.
Of course, if we start hearing good news from him in regards to WB making negotiations with him in the coming months leading up to the release of the new Supes film, I'll be all up for it.

Agreed. I'd still buy a completed version in a heartbeat, for all of my complaining.
But-there seems to be so many factors working against this (Donner hasn't expressed any approval/support; outside of Capedwonder, WB hasn't really seemed to acknowledge wanting or soliciting any feedback for a recut of any sort for SII; repurposing old footage isn't new, but don't know if it's been done on this scale for a straight to dvd project with big name actors reacting to different situations like Brando in SR, etc.)....
It's just too hard to believe it'll be completed or released at this point, for my part.

Has it been almost six years since edit was started? I wish he would release new ending. I don't know why keeping the ending under wraps is such a big deal all that stuff gets leaked online anyways.

Yeah, if someone could share the ending, it would put this whole project to rest and don't give me that "Oh, there might be interest in it when Synder's film comes out" crap. Warners has put out the Blu-rays and will offer the same thing when the new film comes out. I just wish Selutron was more like Adywan, who does his Star Wars fan edits because he would like to see them that way and knows others feel the same way.

At this point we've all here exhausted the ideas we all have as to what his "leaves us in tears" ending is. I personally don't think for a second that Sel would end the movie on a downer though. Mainly because, for all his talk about how he is against fan editing because of how we've made it into a Frankenstein project of sorts (which I do agree with lol), with that same mindset, I can't imagine him taking liberties to making an ending that fits HIS idea of what the "best' ending should be. Because then he'd be just as guilty of it as we are. |

If Lester kept the original Mankiewicz script, or just kept the reverential tone of Donner's STM, it never might have become such a Frankenstein monster to begin with.
Thau just was the wrong person to do the job, but may have been the only one in the right place at the right time to get SOMETHING pushed out. But, given how it all shook out, I mostly prefer the IRC myself- it handled the Donner footage that existed far better than how Thau treated it. The only real 'bonus' we got was the opening DP scene and the Brando stuff, from the RDC.
Release the IRC with dvd quality already, WB! Sheesh.

Well, he did come off as arrogant and self-importance....like HE was the only obligated to make this work. I guess a fan-cutting community needed an Icarus-type figure to teach others their place in world. Like Jim said, never go official.

Considering how easy (well ok, not easy, but time consuming) using AE is to do what he did, I understand now how arrogant he came off as. As well as naive as he was to believe that he could make something like that happen.

Hard to say who actually saw it. When they say that they saw it, do they mean they saw his entire cut like the people he spoke to while showing them his entire cut? Or have they only seen the same clips we've seen? I've heard both Sarah Douglas and Mank saw. Not sure about Donner though. |

I would imagine that there were a lot of 'placeholders' (maybe still title cards)--- it's never been mentioned that it was fully complete. In one of the last youtube messages, Selutron was asking if there were modelmakers out there who were interested in helping out.
I suspect that Mank offered the dvd rough cut to Donner to view, (perhaps, depending on timing- wasn't Mank sick for a long time?), but who knows how hard Mank wanted to push it on Donner--- Donner still seems to have those old wounds right under the surface.
Anyhow--- the ideal would be a better recut release, maybe tie-in to the new Superman movie release. That's two years advance notice, there's a LOT that WB could do between now and then!

I really doubt we'll see another cut. The most we'll get (and I'll be surprised if we even get these) are the extra deleted scenes from Donner's Superman II not previously released, ala the RIC.

Considering that's what we were expecting in the first place (along with Brando scenes re-instated and camp turned down), I'd be more than happy with that. |
