I'd defo like to see more contact sheets, the shot's of Glen Ford with young Clark (who's not even seen in the film) lifting anvils, whacking pegs into the ground etc were astounding!

I wonder if these scenes were actually filmed? To be part of a montage perhaps?

CAPEDWONDER™ PRINTS



[UPDATED 03 OCTOBER 2008 -- An EBAY auction of a CapedWonder™ photo recently ended, and the winner e-mailed me this message about it: "...the quality is crap – it’s not even produced like a photo, but off a consumer grade laser printer on crap paper. It is truly a piece of crap “photo”." There are other CapedWonder™ photos currently on EBAY, some of which clearly show "www.capedwonder.com" in the bottom corner of the auction thumbnail. Read more below.]




CapedWonder™.com generates absolutely no income for me from the general public. This website will never create posters, prints, etc., from CapedWonder™ image files in order to put money in my pocket (read the mission statement). The only time you will see printed CapedWonder™ imagery is for charity, such as the for the Siegel & Shuster Society charity auction to raise money to restore Jerry Siegel's home. I have not, and will not, say yes to anyone who asks me to make prints from the CapedWonder™ image files for financial gain.



Since launching CapedWonder™.com on March 28, 2002, I have seen CapedWonder™ imagery appear on coffee mugs, buttons, key chains, children's birthday party packs, postcards, notecards, canvas murals, posters and more -- and offered for sale on EBAY. I assumed that people who lacked integrity and looking to make a buck would eventually take the images off my website and try to make "quality" products with them (aren't there other Superman collectibles that you could be making a whole lot more money from???). But don't be fooled by EBAYers selling prints from CapedWonder™ image files who are making claims that their prints are "superb" with "no grain", "new and improved", "custom", etc.



Although I strive to achieve a balance between quality and download speeds in order to maximize your viewing experience, the files on this site do vary in pixel count/resolution, depending on the source material. That said, these files aren't large/high-res enough to create great prints from. At best, the prints will look mediocre. I have an extensive photography and graphics background, with over twenty years of experience prepping files for high-quality printing of all size and substrate output on numerous types of machines (all the way up to billboard size), so I can state with complete confidence that you are very likely to be disappointed with what you receive in the mail should you bid on and win one or more of these prints on EBAY or any other auction website.



Chances are that CapedWonder™ prints offered on EBAY are going to be created using either a dye-sublimation (or dye-diffusion) printer like the Kodak Image Magic™, a color copy/"laser" type printer found at such places as FedEx Kinkos™, or an inkjet printer. In many EBAY listings, the print sizes have been 8-1/2" x 11", which is not a size that a genuine photographic lab uses (8" x 10" and 8" x 12" paper sizes are standard). Dye-sub printers may produce near photographic prints, with better results than a typical inkjet printer. Color copiers just don't look like real photos, period. While the printing processes described above have improved over the past five years, claiming that the inks are "archival", providing "decades" of life; that has yet to be absolutely proven since they are relatively new and unproven processes. Nobody truly knows how long these prints will last, and certainly a color copy will have the shortest lifespan. The longevity and stability of true photographic prints was proven a long time ago.



A typical scenario would be for an EBAY seller to produce prints on an inkjet printer because of the convenience of print-on-demand at home. However, the seller will likely use the low to medium quality setting in order to save ink, with mediocre results (we all know how much ink costs these days). Dye-sub prints cost about the same as inkjet prints when you consider the cost of both the paper and ink, but very few people privately own this type of printer because the cost is very prohibitive. True photographic prints are typically cheaper when ordered in quantities. And color copies are usually cheap because the output quality is "cheap" , or "crap", as the EBAY buyer above described his color copy print. You get what you pay for.



A true photographic, archival quality print can only be produced using photographic paper and chemistry in a genuine photographic lab, the identical process used to produce prints from film negatives and slides (I'll bet the prints in your old albums and boxes still look very good). True photographic prints will last many, many years without fading or color shifting if kept in archival pages, or framed with UV protective glass and acid-free mats and hung in indirect light. They also look more natural, with better detail in the midtones (shadows), highlights and blacks, depending, of course, on the quality of the original source file. How do you know for certain that you have a true photographic print? Grab a corner with a sharp, thin blade like an exacto knife, and lift and separate the backing and carefully peel it off from the front image. Try it, it really works. Today's true photographic prints may also have markings on the back such as "Kodak Royal Paper", especially if they are color prints.



Here is a critical point to keep in mind -- even if a CapedWonder™ image file is taken to a photo lab, its size (the largest being 1600 pixels wide/high) and resolution (between 72 and 96 dpi) are still not conducive to producing an excellent print, which is what you want with your hard-earned money, right?. You must use a high-resolution/high-quality source file to produce a high-quality, natural looking print, regardless of the type of printing process used. Who wants a crappy-looking print in their photo album or on their wall? Surely not me, and I know you don't either! You're better off enjoying the photos on the internet!

I wouldn't see he ripped it off, more like he paid homage to it, much like most of us on these forums with our user names. As far as whether he actually trademarked it, I never really thought about it. I guess it's possible.
